Establish Your Dominion

God sets the pattern for dominion of His people over a variety of things in the book of Genesis.

Genesis 1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

This usage of the word dominion is the first usage in the scriptures and requires a closer look. The Hebrew word for dominion is "radah." Radah means to:

Rule
Have dominion
Dominate
Tread
Subjugate (to bring under the yoke, to force, control, govern enslave)
To scrape out or fashion
To bring into servitude

Radah appears 27 times in the Scriptures. (13 times it is translated rule), (9 times, dominion), (2 times, take), (1 time, prevail), (1 time, reign), (1 time, ruler).

When God said, "let them have dominion over all the earth" He meant just that, over all the earth. If true, (and it is) then God's people should demonstrate their dominion by ruling, dominating, treading, controlling, governing, bringing under the yoke and bringing into servitude all facets of their life so that no one else does it for them. Our Adversary, the devil, is more than happy to step into the role of having dominion in our lives if we will allow it. All the definitions of dominion are of a negative connotation when applied as characteristics of the Adversary. However, all the definitions of dominion are of a positive and Godly connotation when applied to God's people. It is God's will that His people exercise this God-given dominion and not relinquish it to others.

Genesis 1:28 - And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

The word "subdue" is an interesting word and closely related to dominion. To subdue is defined as:

To trample down
To bring into bondage
To make subservient
Force
Control
Violate
Dominate
Tread down (like the treading of grapes into wine)

The point here is that everything that attempts to exalt itself against our God-given dominion is to be subdued. Attacks on our relationships with people, our jobs, our marriages, our children, etc. Any time the Adversary attempts to chip away, at our dominion we are told to subdue it, trample it down, force, control, violate and tread down the attack.

In the book of Zechariah in chapter 9, the context is God defending His people and His church. The believers are exhorted to rejoice in the coming of Christ as well as Gods promises of victory.

Zechariah 9:15 - The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.

The word subdue in this verse means: to trample down the enemies weapons so as not to be hurt.

When faced with times that we must flex our spiritual muscles and subdue attacks against us, we need not fear that we will be hurt in the process. We have every right to exercise and claim our dominion. When something is wrong in our lives and challenges our dominion (health, finances, etc.) we must take action. God's people are to act not react.

How do we present ourselves to the world each day? Defeated, depressed, worried, fearful, lacking, doubtful, anxious?

Proverbs 24:10 – If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

A great price was paid so that we can have dominion. Now we need to establish and demonstrate that dominion to the world.

I Chronicles 18:3 - And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

This verse is crystal clear. David had to stablish his dominion. We too, need to stablish our dominion. To stablish is to:

Stand, take one's stand, stand upright
To station oneself
Take an upright position
To be stationed, be appointed
Deputy
Stand firm
To cause to stand erect
To fix or establish
To be an officer or director

Are we stablishing our dominion? Are we acting on what is rightfully ours or are we reacting to what is happening to us? David had to do the stablishing and we are no different.

The dominion that God established in Genesis is the dominion over us.

Psalm 119:133 - Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

The word iniquity is defined as:

Trouble
Wickedness
Sorrow
Idolatry
Emptiness

It's our choice. The dominion of iniquity or the dominion set forth by God in Genesis.

The choice is an easy one!>

standing in prayer with you, we have churches in the philipines that were really messed up in the hurricanes. God bless all of the peole there. all of your prayer requests will be brought to God .

Thank you for praying with me Bonnie. That means so much to me. There are so many demons in the way and I know that with a lot of faith and prayer, we can vanquish them in the name of our Lord.
