Open Letter to T.D. Jakes

Bishop Jakes,

Let me first commend you on your acceptance to join the furnace that is the Elephant Room. You have taken a lot of heat over the years from pastors and theologians of all ilks, and you have handled it rather gracefully just as you did today. Perhaps the greatest compliment that one can give you is that humility does not seem to be something that you struggle with.

At 22, I felt the Damascus Road calling to ministry and dropped everything that I was doing to pursue ministry. This led me to start school over and begin a Biblical Studies degree at Dallas Baptist University. Interestingly, the school at which I studied and lived is no farther than a few football fields from your church, The Potter’s House.

Being the young angry Calvinist that I was, my first inclination that was that you were a heretic and probably hated Jesus more than I hated the traffic your church creates outside of the campus gates every Sunday morning and evening. I often had thoughts of attending one of your services and later blogging from my dorm room in my underwear about what a shame to God’s cause you really were. When I heard that people were getting saved at your church from Potter’s House members that I had class with, I was praying for REAL salvation to come upon those who bought into your heresies. Want to know the funny part? I hadn’t so much as listened to a single sermon of yours.

So, I listened to a few of your messages and tried to convince myself that I didn’t like what you were saying (though I did much of the time) and was determined to believe that you were a snake oil salesman which a fancy suit that cost too much money. Of course, I was too busy arguing with Calminians at DBU to consider whether or not I was wrong about anything, much less whether or not you were the Antichrist.

Needless to say, the onus was on me – not you – to repent.

As the past few years have come and gone, I have begged the Lord with great fear to humble me and allow me to love my brothers in Christ, regardless of differences, so long as they are not denying the foundational tenets of our faith. When hearing about your inclusion in the Elephant Room, I was greatly excited to hear that you would be cross-examined about your theological beliefs. People were all over the Internet already accusing Mark Driscoll and James MacDonald of associating with a heretic who denied the Trinity, when in reality they were doing what they should: allowing a brother to defend himself in his own words. I was a little disappointed in your responses in Christianity Today regarding the Trinity, but leading up to the Elephant Room I re-read it and had to remember that the interview was 12 YEARS AGO. Chances are, you have developed and grown quite a lot since then.

At the Elephant Room, you answered the question everyone had been asking: Do you affirm the Trinity? Is there one God in three manifestations (a Oneness Pentecostal theology that you’d affirmed so long ago), or is there one God in three persons (the orthodox view)?

Your response: ” I believe the latter one is where I stand today. One God – Three Persons.”

You went on to explain that you’re not afraid of the word “manifestation” because Paul used it, which in context I agree with.

You were then asked the follow-up question by Driscoll: “Do you believe the Bible is the perfect, infallible Word of God? Do you believe God is Three Persons? Jesus is fully God and fully Man? He died on the cross for our sins? He rose from the dead? He is coming again? Apart from Jesus is no salvation?”

You response: Absolutely.

This letter is getting long and you are a busy man, so let me say this: I love and affirm you as a brother in Christ. There will be many people who parse your words from today and still doubt you. Sadly, people believe that you a) owe them an explanation satisfactory only to them, and b) that you’re probably still a heretic even though they can’t name a theological reason why. I don’t agree hardly at all with your methodology or even sometimes your exegesis, but I know this – you are the real deal and I can learn a lot about loving Jesus and loving others from you.

we survived the california rain storm and now we r drying out. Steve is doing good in rehab cont to pray forhealing all the way around. I am kind of bummed i was hoping steves food check would come from workmanscomp but has not so pray that it will cometomorrow and the bank will be nice to us . Also i am still hurting in the abdomen doing a little better cont to pray for healing of my abdomen and emotions if u have my phone number i would love a call thanks for your time and friendship al;so if i owe somebody a gift please let me and i am sorry with our finances liz in sunny coastal calif

I praise you for blessing my brother, Kenny, let no weapon forged against him or
his children, prosper ,and take that which was meant for evil and turn it for
their good and your glory! I ask you to open a door for Kenny and to supply all
his needs according to your riches: And I give you the glory.

I ask you to help Jon, Jordan and Alison guide and keep them from depression and
sorrow and to keep the enemy of our soul from having any ground in their lives.
Shield and shelter my loved ones; fill them
with your unspeakable joy, with faith, and the peace that passes all
understanding for your name's sake--do a work in their heart to live a Godly
life--to be righteous in your eyes and for their lives to produce fruits of your
Spirit.

I give you glory for strengthening and encouraging mom, for the comfort and love
with which you shelter, and heal her, Alesha, and Robin by your stripes.
Anoint the health care workers and use them an instruments of your healing for
them and help them with their financial worries and supply their needs
exceedingly
beyond their hopes. Lift the burden and heal them for your glory!

Direct Aryn and Kyle, they are in your hands. I know not what to pray; I ask
your Holy Spirit to intercede and do that which is for them--you know your will.
Thank You,Father.

Father, kindle love for me--fill my helpmate with so much love for you, me and
your will for our lives that she can't contain it; today bring her to my side,
refreshed, renewed, open the eyes of her
understanding, allow nothing to come between us and your will, and grant her the
wisdom, insight, knowledge and understanding to accomplish more than what I've
asked or imagined for the both of
us. Guide her evaluations and decisions for what is best, and in your will. Heal
and speak 'peace be still' into her for the glory it brings to your name.

Let your word be a lamp unto her feet and a light unto her path--light the
direction you want her to take so clearly that she can't mistake it. Confirm
your word and will to her, Father. She is looking for a sign; please give her
one as big as a billboard and neon bright--end all doubt and confusion in this
for her. Speak into her heart, mind, body, spirit, soul, in her dreams, vision,
in ways I've not asked or imagined! Make it clear and give her the certainty and
courage to act on the sure knowledge of your will.

I plead the blood over all my loved ones and ask for your warring angels to
surround and protect them. Please grant the desire of my heart; please supply my
need beyond what I ask or imagine.

Crush my mountain and pave a highway from this wilderness into your promises
that are yea and amen. Keep the promises made, Father, for the glory it brings
to your name, the one in which I pray.

Plant us side by side, with you as the center rose, so entwined in your perfect
love beyond what I imagine, that none can tell one from the other. Draw us
closer to you and each other in a deeper, closer,
more loving threefold cord relationship which cannot be broken for the glory it
brings to your holy name! Be swift, Father. Show me mercy; take this emptiness
away and heal the hollowness of my heart.

Bless the works of my hands, and give me fruit for my labors which remain. Pour
out a blessing I cannot contain for the glory it brings to your holy name. Give
your children favor with those whom you bring them into contact to fulfill your
will, especially at work, Lord. Guide my decisions and show me what
to do, and what to teach. Anoint me for those classes and bless me in all the
works of my hands.

I praise you that no weapon forged against us prospers and that those who set
snares and traps for us are caught by their own devices, that the battle isn't
ours, but yours and that you will give each of us victory through your loving
name.

[FamilyofGod] update from liz

ithought i would share what has happened lately. steve is off at the welness and pain center and they are working with him mentally physically and emotionally and some diagnosis/ Our church helped pay for the first two weeks and i talked to his lawyer and workmanscomp is sending his food money for another month. Finances are doing a little better but cont to pray. Also pray for healing of my abdomen they doctor thinks adhesians. Also pray for patience for me with the boys liz

O IMMENSE, almighty, and incomprehensible God, who am I, that Thou
shouldst vouchsafe to come to be my food, and to take Thy habitation
within my soul? The consideration of Thy greatness and my unworthiness
penetrates me with awe and confusion. With the utmost sincerity I can
only declare the extent of my misery, and admire that infinite goodness
which induces Thee to visit personally the lowest and basest of Thy
creatures. Receive, then, Thy unworthy servant into the compassionate
arms of Thy mercy. Cast all my sins out of Thy sight, and with the
tenderness of a loving father extend Thy arms to receive me; and let me
effectually experience the truth of Thy prophet's words: "A sacrifice to
God is an afflicted spirit; a contrite and humble heart, O God, Thou
wilt not despise" (_Ps._ l. 19).

An Act of Fear

O MY God and Saviour, it is with fear and trembling that I approach Thy
banquet, having nothing to confide in but Thy goodness and mercy, being
of myself a sinner, destitute of all virtue. My soul and body are
defiled with many crimes, my thoughts and tongue have been under no
restraint. I have frequently resolved to amend, and yet where do I
remain but in the midst of sin and vice? How little pains do I take to
recover from this misery and return to Thee, to whom I have repeatedly
promised to be faithful! These thoughts cause me to fear that what Thou
hast mercifully ordained for my salvation, I should now receive to my
judgment and condemnation. In this wretched condition I hasten to Thee;
to Thee I expose all my wounds, to Thee I disclose my depravity. Look,
therefore, on me with the eyes of compassion, and have mercy on me, O
Lord and Saviour!

Guns should only belong to those that live out in the country, Like I do,

for rabid animals....farmers etc...just my thought...

walmart here sold more guns than ever in december. i guess with that stupid bill obama just signed we had better teqch our kids how to use guns and get them while we can. God expects us to defend our families. as for the phrase when our time is up ,,,wel don't know where it comes from haven't read it in God's word so maybe it is a man made term. death is an enemy that is the last enemy to be distoried. that is in 1st corinthians 15 the last verse... when one dies they cease to exist maybe that is why they fear it/

In my nieghborhood you hear gun shots all the time. You see young boys with guns my niece got her first deer when she was 12. These kids in grade school getting guns for christmas.

I work at walmart too. This morning as I got there something hit the window next to me and the glass shattered. It looked to me like it was from a pellet gun. Got me a little nervous.
