[Church_of_Christ] Re: Can you guess?
Greetings Harold, ED here
Just because someone else uses the terminology "binding example" does not mean everyone subscribes to the terminology. Something is either an example or it is incidental. If it was intended as the way to exercise some command or statement, then it is an example. If it was not intended, then it is incidental, and expediency guides us as to how best to do God's will. I don't like the word "binding" attached to it because certain words carry baggage (baggage I reject) and this is one of them.
Harold: You used 1Cor.162 as proof text of your doctrine, but you leave out the obvious ! You contend Paul is giving a Command, Apostlic binding Example but the your NI is flawed. If this is a Command to assemble upon Sunday, then we must take a collection and put it away until the Apostle comes to collect it. if not why not ?
ED: I use 1 Cor 16:2 not as a stand-alone verse but in conjunction with many others that add sufficient evidence to draw the conclusion that the Lord's Day is the first day of the week. Unfortunately as so often is the case there is a sad lack of understanding (usually indicating a lack of having studied a matter but a ready willingness to speak on it). Most of what happened and is recorded is simply incidental and therefore not an example. For a thing to be an example it must have been intended to be an example by the Lord. I mean no disrespect, but please read and study about a thing before deciding it is worthless and then ridiculing it.
