[Church_of_Christ] Re: Can you guess?
Greetings Clay & Brian, ED
Brian said: So the question becomes whether they were compelled because of their own specific need and circumstance or because of some grand plan developed by God regarding when Christians should assemble together. Personally, I think there is a lot of theological signifcance for holding our gatherings on Sunday. But I don't feel compelled to do so because one of the churches mentioned in Acts may have been told to do so by an apostler or other authoritative figure.
Clay's response: That's pretty much the way I see it as well. In fact I see Paul being the one that possibly thought ... HMMMMMM Sundays would be a good time to get all the house churches in the community, that meets daily and enjoys a common meal together with one another at a central location and celebrate the resurrection. At other times, I'm not so sure that even occurred until Constantine made that the case when he made Catholicism the state religion. But to me it really doesn't matter.
ED: From having discussed many things with you the last few months, I appreciate your frankness here that basically rejects the Restoration of primitive Christian belief and practice. This is what our brethren purposed from the beginning. It further amplifies your statements recently that unless something is "commanded", it is just "history" and nothing more. If you have rejected the Restoration Plea, why not just come out and say so. Why not tell people you want to introduce something new; start a new movement based on your thinking?
