RE: [Church_of_Christ] Re: Questions on Marriage
Greetings Beth.
You wrote:
<snipped>But from all your post you have left the impression that we are not to bother anyone who is living in blatent sin....that they have a right to their own beliefs and we should give them that right and privacy.
Shawn writes: I cannot control what impressions you might develop from my comments. I'm not sure what it is that you do not understand about the rights and protections afforded the citizens of this country. I do believe that all citizens have a right to their own beliefs and I do believe that we should allow them the same rights and privacy that you and I enjoy.
What you don't seem to get is that when you deny others their rights you open the door to having your own denied as well. Whenever the balance of power shifts in this country, those whose rights have been denied will take up those rights when they come to power and take the rights of those who participated in the denial of their rights.
My whole thing with you is that you seemingly don't care about those that are lost. That we are just to set back and let them be lost.
Shawn writes: I can do nothing more than share the good news and model a worship filled lifestyle. It is up to each person how they remain in or change their status with YHWH.
I have said from the beginning that we are to teach them....not try and force them into anything.
Shawn writes: When you deny them their rights, you are no longer teaching, you are trying to force them.
And tried to explain that when blatent sin is forced down my throat and I can't fight back then I have a right as a Christian to fight back in the name of God.
Shawn writes: No one is forcing you to sin, to violate your conscience, to become a homosexual or marry another female. You have the choice to not do any of those things and not be persecuted for them. All this is being asked is that others have the same rights and privileges that all citizens should receive under the protections of our Constitution.
I know that you will never agree with me on this, but it pains me that a Christian feels this way.
Shawn writes: I understand your pain and it pains me that Christians are more concerned about controlling others than pointing the way to the Messiah and letting YHWH be in control. As always, that's my opinion and its only of value to me.
Shalom,
Shawn
