Re: The God Virus: How religion infects our lives and culture- ExChristian.Net - Articles Posted: 29 Oct 2009 07:53 PM PDT Fellow Fundie Fighters, I've found some special assistance, someone to intercede for us! Check out what I found on a Catholic online webpage, the patron saint of the internet! I couldn't figure out how to get the picture over here, so I've got the prayers with my comments in parentheses. Saint Isidore of Seville Sanctus Isidorus Hispalensis Proposed Patron Saint of Internet Users (c.560 - 636) A Prayer before Logging onto the Internet and the Catholic Online Forum Almighty and eternal God, (OK, which one? Zeus, Kuan Yin, Thor or my personal favorite, Quetzalcoatl?) who created us in Thy image and bade us to seek after all that is good, ( Are we bloodthirsty, egomaniacal, petty, egocentric, racist, bellicose or sadomasochistic...is that the image you're referring to? As for good, well what the big book considers good is hard to pin down. Which tribe's destruction should we look to? ) true and beautiful, (Not much truth in those contradictory and stange texts of the bible) especially in the divine person of Thy only-begotten Son, (Considering the girl's age and yours, it was rape and child abuse that produced that divine person, and we're glad he was the only-begotten...given your position and at your age, you shouldn't go around doing the nasty deed with little girls.) our Lord Jesus Christ, (Originally called Hesus/Krishna, the trade off Constantine got from the chaotic Nicene council that was proposing more gods than the Roman Pantheon had at the time) grant we beseech Thee that, (He won't grant squat, trust me, I don't care how long you beseech) through the intercession of Saint Isidore, bishop and doctor, (What would a 7th century bishop and doctor know about the internet? Was this saint on the shelf without a commission and his number was up?) during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee (Well, in the OT he gets pretty pleased with massacres, mass rapes, burning cattle and even killing off the first born, so take your pick…I would guess a little internet porno would be too tame for what that big boy has been into from Genesis to Numbers and all the prophets) Hey, let the teenager's hands and eyes go where they can have a little fun, dude! Puberty? Remember? and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. (I don't plan to encounter any souls on this trip. You can't see them anyway.) Through Christ our Lord. (I'd rather have a fast connection with a good modem…I don't think going through Krishna will give me good reception. You got any good WIFI?) |
Re: The beginng of the end for my belief- Testimonies of Ex-Christians Posted: 29 Oct 2009 06:22 PM PDT I'm not 'coming down' on the woman. Just stating what I see as facts. Not passing judgement on her. All I deduce from your comment is that you married 'the wrong type' too, as you say, when you were 'young and stupid'. That tells me that you admit you made a mistake too. And that you implicitly admit the woman Thackerie was talking about made it too. You are mistaken in thinking I'm coming down on anyone, either you or that woman. It's their (and your burden) to carry and live with the consequences of their (and your) decisions. Just as I have to live with the consequences of my decisions. No deep new truths here in what I just said, I think. The lady Thackerie was talking about, however, made not one but three mistakes. Considering her less-than-optimal skills in making life's choices, I fear for her future. Her track record isn't exactly reassuring me that she will make better decisions in the future. Hopefully there are no innocent victims here (e.g. children), and only the person making the bad decisions will be the one suffering the consequences of them. Anything else would be unjust. (and yes, life often is unjust) May sound harsh. So be it. Life, nature, mechanical appliances and electricity are terribly unforgiving of mistakes. Or, as a friend says, 'stupid hurts'. Sometimes you don't even get a second chance. Peter. (<-- and yes, I got hurt too by my own stupidity in the past; technically I shouldn't be around anymore but I got lucky) |

Re: 'A Universe From Nothing' by Lawrence Krauss, AAI 2009- ExChristian.Net - Articles Posted: 29 Oct 2009 04:41 PM PDT I like, "Forget Jesus. The STARS died so that you could be here today." Fascinating. |
Re: The God Virus: How religion infects our lives and culture- ExChristian.Net - Articles Posted: 29 Oct 2009 04:24 PM PDT A very slight variation on the progression: I-V-VI-III-IV-I-IV-V Do it in D major, and you get the Pachelbel Canon, a lovely piece in its own right but arguably the most overplayed classical piece ever. |
Re: 'A Universe From Nothing' by Lawrence Krauss, AAI 2009- ExChristian.Net - Articles Posted: 29 Oct 2009 03:30 PM PDT Now that was awsome! The Universe really did come from NOTHING! I love it! XPD |
