Earnestly Desire the Best Gifts
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart". (Psalms 37:4). What is the desire of our heart? Bible says, `At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask! What shall I give you?" (1 Kings 3:5). We know Solomon prayed for an understanding heart and Bible says, "The speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing". (1 Kings 3:10). The desire of our heart and prayer should be pleasing to God.
Apostle Paul, the servant of God writes "Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts" (1 Corinthians 14:1). But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. (1 Corinthians 12:31). And in 1 Corinthians 12 we read about the manifestation of spiritual gifts and God is the one who gives all gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-7). Yes, God has many gifts for us and we should desire them. But before looking into the gifts, lets desire the provider of gifts - our Lord God, so that we can receive also the gifts and serve Him according to His will (1 Corinthians 12:11).
King David to whom God gave a testimony, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.' (Acts 13:22) say, "One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple". (Psalms 27:4). All of us like to get a testimony from our Lord like this isn't it? Like David we shall desire for our Lord and His kingdom; and surely our Lord God will be delighted and fulfill the desires of our heart.
David sang, "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever". Psalms 73:25,26). David desired the Lord God more than anything on this earth or heaven.
Dear brethren, the Lord said to Abram, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward." (Genesis 15:1). The presence of our precious Savior Jesus Christ in our lives is the best gift and greatest reward we can have in our lives. And our Lord Jesus Christ says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you". (Matthew 6:33). Yes, we need to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness as our Lord Jesus has commanded us.
We know that God is interested in us more than we do for ourselves. God desires us to enjoy the fullness of His life not only when we go to heaven, but even on this earth. For God to fulfill the desires of our heart, we need to do certain things as the Lord leads by His Holy Spirit.
We should be humble ourselves for our Lord to fulfill our desires. (LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, Psalms 10:17).
Fear of God should be the breath of our lives. (He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. Psalms 145:19).
We need to abide in the words our Lord Jesus Christ for our Lord God to fulfill our desires. (If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. John 15:7)
Yes, as we humble ourselves, have fear of God and abide in His words, our Lord God will fulfill the desires of our heart.
Our Lord Jesus Christ also has a desire; do you know what it is? Jesus Christ prayed, Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24). Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ's desire is that you and me to be with Him, so that we can enjoy the fullness of His life all the time.
Dear brethren, our Lord Jesus Christ's desire is to be with us; is that our desire also? Let us sit back and analyze ourselves, are we giving the Lord our first love, respect, honor, time and above all ourselves as a living sacrifice to Him? Jesus Christ gave Himself for us when we were sinners and enemies of God (Romans 5:10). Let our desires be our Lord Jesus Christ, kingdom of God, His righteousness and His word. May our Lord God purify our hearts to desire Him and give Him the first priority in all the walk of our life.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Yes, in the way of Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited for You; The desire of our soul is for Your name And for the remembrance of You. (Isaiah 26:8)
With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. (Isaiah 26:9)
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? (Psalms 42:1,2)
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:11)
