Jesus says, "What Is That To You? You Follow Me".
In the book of John we read the conversation Jesus Christ had with Simon Peter before ascending to heaven. Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs." (John 21:15). Three times Jesus Christ asked Simon Peter the same question and when he answered, the Lord said "feed My sheep" (John 21:15-17). After saying how Peter is going to glorify God in his death, the Lord said, Follow Me. (This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me." John 21:19).
After receiving the command from the Lord to Follow Him and feed His sheep, Peter saw John and said to Jesus Christ, "But Lord, what about this man?" (John 21:21). And to this, Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me." (John 21:22).
Dear brethren, the Lord speaks to us in everyday as we read His word, hear sermons, etc and has given all His commands for us to follow in Bible. After receiving from the Lord what to do, how many times have we seen the person nearby and said what about this person? Today my beloved brethren, again our Lord Jesus is saying to us, "What is that to you? You follow Me".
In our Christian walk we need to follow Jesus Christ every day. We may see people doing different things for the Lord or in different ways they may be serving the Lord or may not be doing anything; but whatever may be the things the person next to us is doing, Jesus Christ says to you and me, "What is that to you? You follow Me". Yes, we need to keep our focus only on Jesus Christ and follow Him alone. In Bible we read, after receiving the command from the Lord people saw others or followed other people and failed; Israelites followed the ways of gentiles and they failed to serve God (Judges 2); some prophets listened to other prophets and failed (1 Kings 13); some kings trusted in other kings and they failed (2 Chronicles 14-16). Yes, whenever people saw other people and followed their ways not keeping the ways of God in the first place, they failed.
Jesus Christ says, "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock" (Matthew 7:24). Bible says, "And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." They immediately left their nets and followed Him". (Matthew 4:18-20). From the beginning to the end, this was the command Jesus Christ gave to Peter, "Follow Me".
Beloved brethren, have you moved away from following Jesus Christ seeing other people or seeing how others are serving God or looking into the situations surrounding you or seeing your capabilities rather than trusting in the Lord; today surrender to the Lord and ask forgiveness to the Lord, commit yourself to follow Jesus Christ and not see other persons. Our Lord God rich in mercy will uphold you with His mighty right hand and make you soar like an eagle.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is with us and He will lead us and guide us till the end (And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. Matthew 28:18-20).
God has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth and lead us in the path of righteousness and lead a holy life as witness for Jesus Christ (the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:17). (But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8).
Dear brethren, everyday as we sit at the feet of Jesus Christ and read His word, He will lead us, guide us, enlighten us and empower us by His Holy Spirit and His word. Let us not see what others are doing; but keep our focus on Jesus Christ and follow Him. By the grace of our Lord as we abide in His word and do as He commands, we can bear much fruits for the Lord and the people surrounding will see and follow Jesus Christ who dwells in us.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me". (Matthew 16:24)
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. (John 12:26)
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (John 8:12)
