[FamilyofGod] Train up a Child in the Way He Should Go
Train up a Child in the Way He Should Go
Bible says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6). God has given a task for each parent to train their children in the way of the Lord. Bible indeed commands us to teach and train our children in the Godly way. God has given children to us as gifts (Psalms 127:3) and it is our duty to take care, protect and nourish them not as we like, but as God desires.
Bible commands, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:5-9)
To love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our strength is the basic and foremost command we need to teach our children. But before teaching them, we should be a role model to them. All the children mostly learn or lay their foundation for their life mostly from seeing their parents the way they talk, the way they act, the way they treat others, the way they talk about others, the way they walk with God, the importance they give to God, the way they dress, the way they maintain things, the way they keep time, etc. Yes, the kids first take their parents as their role model in their lives. And whatever we do, will have a great impact in molding the life of the young ones.
The Lord said about Abraham, "For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him." (Genesis 18:19). It's a great testimony from our Lord God Himself about Abraham. No doubt, we read in Scriptures Abraham taught his son Isaac about fear of God and the ways of the Lord.
We read that in the days of Isaac a famine came and he packed and started going to Egypt; but the Lord stopped him. (There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar. Then the LORD appeared to him and said: "Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. Genesis 26:1,2).
We know that Abram also went to Egypt when there was a famine. (Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land. Genesis 12:10). Isaac might have learnt moving to Egypt during famine from his father Abraham. One more thing also he learnt is to say his wife as sister. Abram said Sarai as his sister (Genesis 12:13) and Isaac also said Rebakkah as his sister (Genesis 26:7).
And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, 'This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you." (Genesis 12:11-13).
And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, "She is my sister"; for he was afraid to say, "She is my wife," because he thought, "lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to behold." (Genesis 26:7)
If we carefully see here, Bible says, Abram "said" (v12:11); but Isaac "thought" (v26:7). Yes, beloved brethren, our children will remember the things we speak and they may choose the way we act.
Abram went to Egypt and while coming out another person came along with them - Hagar (Genesis 16:1) and we know the problems that came after that. So, it may be one reason God appeared to Isaac and stopped him from going to Egypt, before something happens (Genesis 26:2). Many times, God appears to our children to prevent them from following our mistakes or decisions or habits or ways.
Dear brethren, our children learn to make decisions by looking at the decisions we take in our life. Our children learn to speak by the way we speak. Our children learn to treat others by the way we speak about others and treat them, even our parents, in-laws, friends, relatives, colleagues, boss, national leaders, brethren, etc. Dear ones in Christ let us not just read and teach Bible; but let us speak and act as the Bible teaches us. Let us not be just hearers only, but be does of the word and let our talk and actions be Godly role models to our children.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. (James 1:23,24)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:17)
Love & Prayers,

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and I could say, "I used everything that you gave me."
