.. I agree with you somewhat or with some of what you stated. I believe Job could be an allegory... but I don't really don't have to know that. It has nothing to do with who God is.... and I was basing my thoughts on dinosaurs because of its tail... not its mouth. I guess that really doesn't matter either. But I appreciate you posting it.

To be honest - I personally believe the mentioning of the behemoth and the leviathan in Job 40 are more symbolic than anything else. I think it is important to look at it in the context of the whole chapter. I have done a great deal of research with some of the hebrew used in Job because I did a paper on it comparing Satan in Job to mephistopheles in Faust. What I found gave me some major insight on some things and led me to conclude that Job is much much more allegorical than literal.That being said - I think that in the context of Job 40 it is seen that God is takin this attitude with Job asking "how dare you question me? What are you? I hung the stars. What did you create?". The way be then describes the behemoth is like describing a divine pet. It is as if God says, "look - I have an animal so large but I can wrangle the thing as a pet. Do you have that power?".As far as he mammoth and mastodon - they are different animals. The mastodon and mammoth loom similar but a mammoth feeds on grass - a mastodon feeds on leaves and shoots from trees (like a panda). That is why some read the behemoth as a mammoth - side the verse says it feeds on grass. However - what makes me think it is more of an allegory is that I do not think any animals has been found to have bones of bronze. :). (see Job 40:18).Lastly - age of earth - there are two theories1) young earth - held mostly by Fundamentalist Christians that have taken a very literal view of scriptures. By counting the ages of people mentioned in scripture, they come up with the birth of the earth right before Adam at about 6000 years. There are some holes in this because it assumes that the only people on the earth are those mentioned in the Bible. However - If we take a look a some history of civilizations - Chinese dynasties date back to around 5500 years back. That alone gives a small problem.2) old earth - science gives another view. Many christians and other hold to this belief. It holds the earth is millions of years old. Even the oldest hominid skeleton found is dated around 4.4 million. There is a great deal of evidence for this viewpoint. You got it right as to my learning....Did you know that there was an earth age before this one? That the earth is really millions of years old? There was a time that we all lived on this earth in our spiritual bodies and everyone was happy. To find out what brought that to an end, read our study on the Rebellion of Satan. These two studies go hand in hand to explain why we are here and what brought the first earth age to an end. I'm not talking about reincarnation as we go though this earth age one time only.
