JOYFUL 'TOONS: POEM OF THE DAY: Jesus Christ and We Christ has no hands but our hands To do his work today; He has no feet but our feet To lead men in his way; He has no tongue but our tongues To tell men how he died; He has no help but our help To bring them to his side. Annie Johnson Flint STRONG FAMILIES - STRONG PEOPLE: Tips from the Reichel's Something to Talk About This Christmas I would like to challenge our wonderful Christian parents to consider giving one tenth of your holiday preparation time to sharing about Jesus Christ this year. If you estimate that you spend twenty hours shopping, wrapping, decorating and preparing food, how about giving two hours in sharing or attending events dedicated to proclaiming the greatness of the birth of Jesus? Many of the larger churches sponsor beautiful events that feature Jesus instead of Santa, and even the television has some terrific shows if you look for them. But for many of us, if we don't plan something truly spiritual, this will be a secular holiday, "special" and "sweet" only because we get off work, eat fun food and get to be with family. Make sure your kids know what you know about the birth of Christ. Here are just a few of the interesting facts you could make living and real for them.
From here the story gets too good to summarize - You've just got to read Luke 1:26-80 where the angel Gabriel himself talks to Mary and she accepts the prophesy concerning her virgin conception and the birth of God's son! Then she goes to visit John the Baptist's mother and there is more prophesy! What a story! The kids will love it! Then read the story made famous in untold numbers of school plays before people were told it was "politically incorrect" to enjoy them - Read the story in Luke 2 about the incredible birth of our savior – the angels, the shepherds, the manger, the minute timing of the swaddling cloths. Let the older kids take turns reading out loud. Let them express their wonder and hear you express yours. Answer their questions if you can but don't get too academic – just enjoy the time together. Don't let the candy and the elves steal this wonderful time from your family. PLAN to enjoy some quality talk about Jesus this Christmas. Love and God's blessing to you and yours,Cathy SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Jesus Our All in All
