I think what George is saying (correct me if I have misunderstood you, George) is that when we are giving to the poor or the homeless it can also be seen as tithing BECAUSE it was Jesus that told us whenever we do something for the LEAST we have done it for him. If the core idea of giving to the church or tithing is that we are giving to God, then this could be seen as tithing since Jesus said we would be giving to him if we give to the poor or the homeless.Amanda

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:13,14).

Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day" (2 Timothy 1:12) and "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16).

I agree too. But then you also have to consider what Jesus said, "In as much as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me." So in a sense when you give to the homeless or needy you are tithing.

Do you believe it is right/Biblical/moral to tithe (or to give money in general) to your church? Do you believe it is right for a pastor to be paid for the work that is done at the church?I am curious what people think.Amanda
