[FamilyofGod] Mothers
Proverbs 31:28-Her children arise and call her blessed.....
Mother raised four of us children, and I"ve never doubted for a moment the godly influence she continues to have on each of our lives. But at a community gathering a few years back, I learned all sorts of interesting tidbits about her. "Your mother is the "Mother Teresa of Madison Avenue," a lady announced, referring to the street where my parents still live. Oh, I knew she went grocery shopping for shut-ins, but I never realized that by clipping coupons and careful shopping, she stretched the fixed incomes of those seniors to include ground beef and fresh fruit. "I knew a different side of your mother," another women recalled. "When she was a single teacher straight out of college, they assigned her to a country school so far up the "holler " they had to pipe in sunshine. There wasn"t much entertainment for those kids, and one December she stayed up the whole night with the family of one of her pupils to watch their Christmas cactus bloom. They talked about that for years." "I"ll never forget the time her brother was in the Army during World War II," the first lady said. "Not many of us women drove back then, but that didn"t stop your mother. She hopped right in her car and drove those back roads clear from West Virginia to Texas to see him. When I asked her if she was afraid, she said she borrowed a fellows tweed cap so she"d look like a man behind the wheel." My practical, cautious, serious mother-the one who wouldn"t let us go off to school until we had our morning dose of oatmeal-had done all that? On this day set aside to honor mothers, why not take a moment to celebrate the many roles our own mother has played? Like a fine diamond, She"s a woman of many sparkling facets, "blessed" in ways you may never have imagined. And all this time, we thought she was just "MOM"! Lord what a priceless, enduring treasure my mother is. Thank you.-Roberta Messner My mother was a nurse for 38 years, she took care of her Father that had parkinsens disease when she was only 17. Then she took care of my Father when he had cancer, and parkinsen's disease, then she took care of my brother Arlin when he was very sick. And all the time she was working at a hospital too. She is a remarkable and unselfish lady. I LOVE YOU MOM.
