[FamilyofGod] Amazing

SOUNDING OUT:
God's Word Is Settled in Heaven

The great truth that God's Word is settled in heaven is found in the eleventh section of this acrostic Psalm of God's Word, my favorite playground, Psalms 119.

Psalm 119:89-91: LAMED
For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.

It says, "Forever O Lord thy word is settled in heaven." That word "O" doesn't mean a lot, but it is very important and carries great emphasis and makes great impact. It shows some emotion, some commitment. It wasn't just a bland statement. When he said this, you could hear a quiver in his voice. "Thy Word O Lord is settled in heaven." That's it – it's been settled. That word "settled" is usually translated "stand." The Word stands!

I want to emphasize that they continue "this day." That's today! Every day we wake up we ought to have that in our heads, that this is the day that the Lord hath made. That this day is the one we get to enjoy. You know there are several days, when I look back over my life, that were hallmark days, days I'll never forget. On most occasions when I got up I didn't know that they would be hallmark days. Some of them I did, like my wedding day. But there were some when I woke up that I had no idea what God had in store for me that day. However, when it was over I was certainly glad and blessed.

We don't always know ahead of time, but that's what we ought to expect every time. Because every day is a day the Lord hath made, we can rejoice and be glad in each one. I want to live with a greater sense of expectancy. Let's wake with great excitement to see what God has for us each day.

Psalm 119:92,93:
Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished [wandered away or been led astray] in mine affliction.
93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

He had some troubles, but he knew that it was the Word that got him out of it. Because he delighted in that Word, he didn't forget it; he held it fast. That's what allowed him to get through it, and that's what allows us to get through the trials and temptations of life. It's the Word that we know. God has given it to us for that purpose. When Jesus Christ went head on with the devil, what did he say? "It is Written!"

He went to the Word. That's the same privilege that we have. We go to the Word knowing that the Word will produce the same results today as it has on any day in history. The phrase, "it is written" is in the Greek in the perfect tense. The perfect tense indicates actions in the past that has its impact or completion in the present. Jesus said, "It is Written." When was it written? That verse was written many years ago by Moses. It's recorded in Deuteronomy. It was written, but Jesus didn't say it was written. He said "It is Written." Because it was not only written at some time in the past, but it was still written that day when he needed it. It was still God's Word. When he used it in that perfect tense he brought the impact of that Word to that specific situation that he was facing in life.

He spoke "It is written," and it backed down the adversary and welcomed victory. He overcame that situation. He came out a victor, a conqueror, because of the Word that he knew. It's the Word that lives and abides forever (I Peter 1:21). In Psalm 119:93, "Quickened me" is old English for "made me alive." He's made us alive! His words are words of life! They bring us life! John 6:63 says they are spiritual life-giving words.

How can folks be bored when they have the Word of God? Psalm 119:92 showed us that he knew that the Word is what got him out of different situations in life, and that's why he swore to never forget it. Too many people think… some day. I'll be healed someday… I'll be victorious someday… I'll be able someday… Someday! Someday! Someday!

We need to change our thinking to "this day." Why wait for some day? Why not expect it, this day? God hasn't made "some day" yet. If you wait for some day, it's never going to get here because it's somewhere down the road. But this day is here. This day is what we have to live and enjoy, and that's what God has for us. We should be thinking that we will see the power of God right now, this day. We want to enjoy God's victory and God's power today, right now.
