And went on to say: If you really believe what you say, then defend it scripturally. If I misrepresent the scripture, demonstrate it with a careful biblical answer. I am tired of the bluster and bluff; the smoke and mirrors.
Cole here: No smoke and mirror, just an observation of how many take the narrative of Scripture and legislate it as a book of law. I'll give one example that is often used in the CoC, "the disciples met upon the first day of the week to break bread" (Acts 20:7). From this one simple narrative sentence of a recorded event in the life of the apostle Paul, a doctrine has been instituted in the CoC of every-Sunday and Sunday only Lord's Supper. This is precisely what Barna meant by the cutting and pasting of disjointed sentences.
