Re: [Church_of_Christ] Re: Are we misunderstanding the scriptures?
Ed..... The conclusions I have made represent years of personal study with an effort to take Bible passages in their context. My conclusion is that for the most part our "traditions" represent sound biblical interpretation. I have given evidence showing this over and over. What I most often receive in return is charges of taking verses out of context, of trying to put us back under law, of not understanding grace, of on and on they go
Beth..... Ed, the thing that you tend to forget as we all do is that " I " too, along with all the others who have differing views than you, have studied "diligently" and prayed for wisdom and understanding for years just as you have. Perhaps God has revealed something to "us" who have changed our minds regarding N.T. doctrine than He has not revealed to you....perhaps not! My point being that "YOU" and you alone can determine if you are in a right relationship with God and if your conscience has really opened up to new thoughts and ideas. I believe the worse thing that can happen to a Christian is closing their mind to possible change in their traditional beliefs.
You "think" you have given scripture to back what your beliefs are, but again, you have not! You have used CENI and not direct commands to try and prove your points, but your proving points are just assumptions.
I believe the "burden of proof" lies in your corner, because we are not adding anything to scripture nor are we taking anything from them....and you are. We don't have to prove anything because we are not saying that the scripture says something that it doesn't....you are.
