I must strenuously object to the term "obvious" in the above sentence.
It's only obvious to those who can see it.
Take two identical twins and raise them with very different lives, and
their brains "contour" themselves in such a way that everything they
perceive will be interpreted according to their brains' "contours". The
result is that what is totally and absolutely obvious to one is
absolutely impossible to be perceived by the other.
It's not simply a matter of stubbornness, or slow thinking, or even
mental paradigms; it's a physical impossibility for the brain to
perceive something that doesn't fit its "contours". The brain can be
remolded over time to eventually perceive the something, but it takes
real remolding, not simply repetition or persuasion (logical or
emotional or whatever). This is because most great issues are not simple
issues, but are complex top-level issues built upon simpler lower-level
issues composed of this assumption and that deduction and that
observation and this conclusion, etc, and you can't just change out the
top-most-level concept if the underlying foundations won't support it.
So I would urge all to realize that what is "obvious" to you may not
even be perceivable by someone just as smart, just as educated, just as
wise, and just as honest as yourself.
