[Church_of_Christ] Creeds
Greetings ED, I don't wish to belabor this subject of creeds because I'm certainly not an advocate of creeds, but I think you are making more out of this than necessary. Creeds are basically non-existant in my area. I suppose the only congregation that even recites a creed are the Methodist and they certainly don't use it as a test of fellowship. Lets' consider your comments:
You said: The Bible is God's revelation. Creeds are man's revelation.
Creeds are simple Bible truths. Reciting a creed is not so different from singing a Gospel Song. Both extract simple Bible truths. So why make such a big issue out of creeds. Why not stand equally opposed to singing Gospel songs? I'm not trying to contentious with you, but just trying to point out the facts of the matter.
The Bible reveals all the truth man needs for godliness. The creeds claim to contain only what the Bible contains and are therefore extra and unnecessary baggage.
Same is true with Gospel songs, or Gospel tracts or any Gospel literature.
The creeds require confession to its elements before acceptance, a text of fellowship.
This is simply not the case. I don't know where this thinking even comes from. The Methodist recite the Apostles Creed, but it is not like everyone must recite it or they are kicked out. AS I said before, it is no different than singing a gospel song. And BTW the Baptist also oppose creeds. It's in their heritage. And I suppose this thinking was all a part of getting back to the Bible and doing Bible things in Bible ways and leaving the failed institution; all a product of reformation
Kindly, Cole
