[Church_of_Christ] Doulos Meditation for April 23
Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-10—For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of god—not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Reflection: This marvelous passage relates three things: grace, faith, and good works. They are in sequence—grace is the foundation of our salvation, faith is the dynamic by which we receive God's grace, and good works (i.e. living according to God's will, obedient) are the results that show in our lives. The order of these things cannot be changed without destroying the message of the gospel.
Notice that the connection between grace and faith is God; i.e. "it is the gift of God." Then notice that the connection between faith and good works is God; i.e. "we are what he has made us, created…" Wait a minute—do I see a landscape developing? God is at the beginning (it's his grace) and he's at the end of the list (he is glorified by our lives of obedient good works)—and he provides the connection between the three. Is the Triune God echoing himself through a trinity of grace/faith/
