[Church_of_Christ] Doulos Meditation for April 29
#5 of 6 Meditations on Hands. Scripture: Habakkuk 3:4—His glory covered the heavens and the earth was full of his praise. The brightness was like the sun; rays came forth from his hand, where his power lay hidden. (NIV—His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden.)
Reflection: God's glory is the effect of his presence in our world—glory is portrayed as massive and weighty, radiant and shining, magnificent. The word became applied only to God by the end of OT days. Look at the symbols here—light streaming from the hands. They are hands of power; as Habakkuk comments "where his power lay hidden." Others speak of light and God's presence: "…wrapped in light as a garment." (Ps 104:2) "…who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light…" (1 Tim 6:16)
To the believer this makes sense but the fleshly mind will not understand. What I can see of God's presence is glorious—what I cannot see is even greater. He enlightens us by opening to us his glory. The seraph said "…the whole earth is full of his glory." The believer sees, knows, is buoyed up and enlightened, transcends the earthly and becomes a repository vessel for God's shining presence. I am pensive however that even those who do not see light are nonetheless in his hands.
