Subject: [FamilyofGod] A brave little blessing
I would like to tell you all a story of a brave little girl that God has used in very mighty ways. Her name is Sage and she is 5 years old.
Sage was born in 2003 with spina bifida. A section of her spine didn't close will her body was forming in my womb. Her nerves petruded out of the spine into a fluid filled bubble. When she was born the docs at childrens hospital alabama popped the bubble and carefully place her nerves back were they belonged, and closed the skin over the spine. They explained that she would probablly never walk or stand and would have bowel and bladder problems. Also she would need a shunt to drain the fluid from her brain. At this point I was scared to death but was going to try my very best to give this pretty little girl a good life. I already had 2 boys ages 3 and a half and 2. The first year was pretty hard becuse she couldn't swallow without gagging, and also had problems breathing when she slept. So at a year old she had another major sugery to remove a section of skull to releave pressure on her cerabellum. Things were great afterwards. She had minor issues with a club foot and casts and eventullay club foot surgery. But things were going great. She grew and got leg braces and by age 3 she could crawl and walk with a walker. Only a few months after she stood our house burned and there went the braces and the walker. It took a whole year for us to get things back on track and get Sage new equiptment and back in physical therapy. Our house burned in Jan 2007 and in Jan 2008 she was up walking again. Through all of this she had a few shunt surgeries, no big deal to her. Feb 2008 we found that Sage had a syrinx(pockets of fluid collecting in her spinal collumn) Her syrinx was the entire length of her spine so the docs did an MRI and also placed another shunt from her spine to the chest cavity to drain the fluid from her spine. Things went good with surgery and she was discharged from the hospital. When I got her home that night I the nurse called and told us to bring her back the next day, another doc had studied her MRI for teaching puposes and found a pretty big tumor in her throat. A few days later we were still in house and got the news Sage had cancer. No more walking because she was so weak from chemo and radiation. In Nov. 2008 she took her last chemo and right before christmas we heard she was in remission. I cried more then than the day we started with cancer because I knew God had mercy on us and he had healed my baby. So Jan 2009 another shunt surg, then in March2009 another shunt surg still a lot of fluid in her spine. But I took her to therapy anyway. She walked again a few weeks ago only to hear that this next back surgery could eleminate any functions that she did have. Sage could never move her feet or ankles and only very little function from her knees. She may not move her legs after this tether cord surgery. Thats what the doctors told me. God told me something totally different. He said she will still walk better than before. Thats what I'm beleiveing. Anyway Sage just had this surgery on Wedn. April 29th 2009. We will be going home from the hospital tomorrow and SHE STILL MOVES HER LEGS THE SAME AS BEFORE.
