Re: My gift to the world: Fearless children - Testimonies of Ex-Christians

Posted: 03 Sep 2009 07:23 PM PDT

At one time, when I missed church, even for illness, I was worried about what others would think. I wasn't worried about God nor was I ashamed of disbelief, it was the other human beings. This should have told me something then, but it didn't. I really don't care now, even though my mother bugs me about not going to church anymore. I figure if I were to go, it would have to be for me, not for others. All those years, when it came to religion, I did it to appease others and constantly was concerned about what others would think if I did not go along to get along and keep them from getting upset. In some respects, I still do that with my mother, but I will not give in and go to church for her. However, I have not told her I am now a humanist, in order to keep from dealing with her anger.

I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. So you don't believe. That is no one's business but yourself and sometimes, as a character said in the movie Minority Report, "In order to see the light, you have to face the dark". This includes having bought of sadness or what have you. It will take time, but you will start to feel better and even make new friends.

I had a fear, as a child of letting my hands and feet hang over the bed for fear some monster would pull me out of bed and drag me off. I think many kids have similar fears, but hopefully we all outgrow such fears and it seems you have. However, it is more difficult when dealing with other human beings because we know what they can do.

I don't know what would make it easier for you, but for me, I follow the rule of "do no intentional harm". We are all human and there will be times we unintentionally harm others, including animals, and for those times we should be sincere about our apology. I accidentally caused the little sliding table to fall tonight, because I leaned on it. I knew not to lean on it, but I forgot and one of my cats happen to be under it. :( I actually checked to see if she was alright and apologized to her. I truly believe she knows I didn't mean to hurt her, but it happened and I care deeply about her. She's physically fine, but was shaken by it. However, she showed affection to me, which tells me she knows I didn't mean it. The same applies to humans of course, but that was just an example of what I mean by accidents.

The problem is, the religious don't follow such a rule. They can't or won't see what they do harms others.

hannahx3:"Why would you post pronographic pictures in this?"

Good question. Here is another; why not?

hannahx3:"You've practically ruined his mind."

Counting yours, that makes two. Two ruined minds.

hannahx3:"This should be a "Christian" blog."

You have absolutely no idea where the hell you are, do you?

...their not interested in seeking the real truth, the truth of why we are here and the mystery of GOD...I have my way of believing , I don't like it but it makes sense to me...so as the biblical writtings state GOD never changes...not the holy priesthood we read about in scripture...hold the high standards of true holiness. With this lose of holiness, salvation is also lost...I do not believe anyone knows what will happen now! Jesus alone [ISAIAH 63]

Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo.

Uh -- no one needs your kind of whack-a-loon help.

You got nothing to offer but morbid ignorance and deluded ejaculations.

Well, here it is again. The typical Xian horror at anything involving human
sexuality.

What if a 13-year-old boy came to this site, and had never seen a woman in that way? Well damn it lady, he's 13. Don't you think its
about time he did?

Yes, I know, sex is evil and sex is dirty because a bunch of superstitious,
ignorant Mideast tribesman said so several thousand years ago.

Remember what Masters and Johnson said about men and masturbation?
Ninety percent will admit to it, and the other ten percent are liars!

Please go back to your nice, clean Xian Disneyland and stay there. You
and reality don't seem to get along too well.

I do apologize for being harsh, but there is no reason at all to put nude pictures and actually moving pictures of a man masturbating. This should be a "Christian" blog, not a "porn" blog. I will pray for you.

Astreja: "Insulting to gods and mortals alike."

Exactly! That is why I can't stand church. Listening to the insipid songs and lame sermons is insulting to my idea of any kind of a worthwhile deity. I don't believe there are any gods to offend, but my own internal sense of goodness is offended by these ridiculous ideas.

I think the real issue is that the ones that are really offended are probably embarrassed for how silly their beliefs sound, that they feel ridiculed. The project the reason for them feeling that on you and they are offended. Cause seriously, if they don't like you, they think you are going to burn forever and they will have eternal bliss. Why should they be offended?

What offends me is that people I know and love believe that I deserve the worst imaginable suffering for all eternity with no relief, simply for not being convinced by something they believe. They actually believe this should be my fate and that it is fair. Who should be offended? Us or them?

Kate, 'holiness' is as mythical as your pretend god. This is an Ex-Christian site... Kindly shake the dust from your sandals and move on.

Wow, that was touching. Hang in there. It gets easier with time. My wife and I went through a similar thing.

Why would you post pronographic pictures in this? Oh masturbation is wrong...but so is naked pictures for the world! And half of the disgusting things you've said in parenthesis! Definately uncalled for. What is a 13 year old boy came to this site? What if that boy had never seen a woman in that way? You've practically ruined his mind. If you are truely a Christian you would not accept the fact you posted trash in this. Way to make the Christian population in our country look descent.
I have no comment on the masturbation thing though. I believe it is wrong...maybe not masturbation itself, but lust is. And masturbation is lust in itself. I do apologize for being harsh, but there is no reason at all to put nude pictures and actually moving pictures of a man masturbating. This should be a "Christian" blog, not a "porn" blog. I will pray for you.

Your fear of hell is nothing more than something you were brainwashed to believe so you wouldn't think for yourself. I know how hard it is to let go of it, but when you do, you see what a despicable doctrine it really is.

You have absolutely nothing to be afraid or ashamed of.

Welcome to the real world Elaine. You are truly a great mom. Keep moving and keep breathing and most importantly, keep living a reason filled life.

The most important thing, Anonymous, is that you were there for your dad. And it was extremely brave of you to speak the truth when he asked.

May you always cherish your memories of him. (((hug)))

Who will forgive you for 'breaking your promise'?
Your children.
Especially as you raise them fearless.

Lance, that's where I'm coming from, too. Although I see no evidence for gods that would stand up under close scrutiny, I do trust that any gods that might exist are at least as sane as us.

The idea of any being torturing people in perpetuity just because they don't believe the stories in a particular book... That's idiotic, and it's beneath contempt -- Insulting to gods and mortals alike.

Hi Elaine, You said = " I am still afraid of hell "...." I have committed treason "....." I am worse than a sinner " ...You are very wrong about the last 2 remarks, and as for the fear of hell...There is NOTHING TO FEAR because there is no hell ( just as there is no heaven, no devil and
no god ).
You very much need to read " The God Delusion " by Richard Dawkins,
A brilliant scientist, teaches at Oxford and not only is very honest and intelligent, but he has a great sense of humor ! I recommend this because you need to know why it is important to feel pride in yourself,
that you have become a non-believer. This book OF TRUTH, will show you, chapter by chapter how and why atheism exists, and will teach you the wonders of our wonderful & natural world....minus a fictitious god.

Best of luck to you, enjoy your freedom because living a lie is NEVER good !
