Re: Leaving the compelling love of Christ- Testimonies of Ex-Christians

I was also raised in the Assemblies of God - I'm 36 now, and I just became agnostic about 1.5 years ago. I know you were criticized somewhat for answering Ryan's question, about where you were coming from, but it does help me to understand your situation.

At the same time that I outed myself as being 'de-converted', I separated from my wife (who is still a strong believer), and we're getting a divorce. There were plenty of reasons *other* than religion for me to want a divorce, but that was kind of the icing on the cake. My family (all still A/G), ex-wife (A/G), and christian friends have all generally been cool about things. I know that they pray for me, and they've given me a book that tries to prove why Christianity is correct, and they are scared that I'll end up in hell, etc. - but there has fortunately been no ugliness. Of course, I don't expect that my sister would want me raising her kids, since she believes strongly in Christianity, but that's pretty understandable to me.

For what it's worth, I don't think that my Christian friends "believe that I deserve to burn in anguish for eternity as punishment", as mtlredatheist said. Rather, I think they just believe that those are the rules that god set down. I'm sure they personally don't think that I deserve to go to hell, at all.

I hope you can come to a peaceful resolution with your family, maestra. If they're behaving like the bible supposedly tells them to act, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Oh Hi Ryan,

Yes, I'm a huge Satanist.

Naturally, Satan has this slight dislike for Jesus and his Daddy, so I had no choice but to leave any church associated with that fictitious jesus character.

While I adore Satan, we are still trying to figure out who exactly created this Satan character; that xtians say is so 'evil' , but yet that their god seems to have created anyway.

Perhaps you could enlighten me a bit more about why Satan is considered so evil by you xtians, okay?

Yeah, my ancient dog puts no conditions whatsoever on his love.

You need to get a boxful of votive candles, a whole array of Plaster saints, a whip for self-flaggelation, some imported incense, and a two-day ritual with incantations.
If your requested miracle doesn't materialize, you will get a number (as you used to at Baskin Robbins) and wait. If it never happens, then you asked for the wrong thing and the deity ignored your plea.
But, sometimes, on an off day, miracles to happen. Just as a Xian.

1112223,
I just came out of my great white throne room a few minutes ago carrying a copy of Field and Stream.

I sprayed a little air freshener before I left.

I'm ex Roman Catholic, so please, let me dump on my own exBrand of religion, ok?
(I don't see it as a hierarchy of bad to worsest....I just want to piss on it because it was so much part of my first 25 years of existence)

Bryanist,

Let me guess...

One day your Mom brought you home some ice cream and using your 6th sense supernatural powers, you 'guessed' what flavor it was, and ever since, you've been a huge believer in this 6th sense, yes?

OK, why the F*** did you take time to answer Ryan's questions?
Ryan's story must be he's another Xian troll.
Sounds to me he's a Xian a**hole that will give you no good counsel and is just trying to figure out how to re-convert you to his stupidity, moronic faith and his sheep-fold.

You are too much of an intelligent, independent and clear headed person to have to answer his idiotic query. You don't want to go back and get sheepshit on your nice shoes, do you?
OK?

Family can be the most horrid when it comes to love. I sometimes wonder if some people know what love is. Other animals sometimes seem to show more love and compassion than the human species.

Joshy2007 (with an intellectual age to match!): "catholic, mormon, jewish, all are religions based off christianity."

Heeheeheeheehee! No, little boy. Christianity is a breakaway sect of Judaism, which preceded it by at least six hundred years. Jesus was Jewish, not Christian. Judaism, in turn, is based on ancient Canaanite religion, which was based on Mesopotamian religion.

I agree about not carrying on a frontal attack on the Xian party line. Use your energy to connect at some human level, but don't get bent out of shape if it doesn't work.
They might never get over the biblegod addiction, never find their own way out. Remember that they are surrounded by enablers/fellow addicts.
You are by yourself on this one, so try to establish relationships with those who can love and respect you because you are an exXian or because they love you in spite of their own faith.
We all need people to love and to love us. It's just that our own family sometimes end up not being on that list.
My immature self wants to scream: F**k X and the cross he drug in the room.

Why is it so important to you, Ryan? I really don't think it matters. What matters is if they are happier in other aspects of their life, outside of what other people may think, say, or do.
