And you're missing one important point. The Apocalypse of Peter is not in the Bible because it's a bogus fairy tale, with outrageous claims that contradict other scriptures. But the Revelation of John, which IS in the Bible, now that's God-breathed and spiritual and factual and totally reliable. Mmm hmm.

You'll still go there and be subject to punishment ... regardless whether you have a few hundred years or forever.

Which hell is that? There seem to be quite a few, the one Jesus talks about with gnashing of teeth, then there's Peter's hell being strung up by my wicked willie. There is Dante's Inferno, and also the hell where they send infidels who refuse to bow a knee to Allah. Not to mention all the eastern versions of hell. And let's not forget being stuck in Houston traffic for eternity. It seems everyone is already condemned to at least one version of hell.

I'd like to know that as well. I have been squirreling things like this away for a rainy day.

He (or someone quoting him) said this on Stephen Colbert's show. I can't remember what Colbert said, but this stuck with me. It's a good one.

That one is one of my favorites, too.

Playing':You're relying on the SAVED to ask God, on your behalf, to save you

The bigger point to be seen here, is that all the 'books' in the bible were written by men, then selected by men for inclusion in the bible.

So it goes with fairy tales and legends.

To be sure, no one here thinks hell or the bible god, is real.

It is interesting though, that if hell were real, there seems to be a darn good chance of escape...HAHA

"2. You're relying on the SAVED to ask God, on your behalf, to save you."

Yeah, it's not wise to assume they'd do that for us. Most seem to gloat at the idea that their atheist/non-christian fellow human beings will be tortured in hell for eternity.

You're missing two important points. If this is true, then...

1. You'll still go there and be subject to punishment ... regardless whether you have a few hundred years or forever.

2. You're relying on the SAVED to ask God, on your behalf, to save you.

"I am a school librarian and have to be very careful with "Jesus" around my coworkers. I love my biddy Baptist ladies but if I even question Jesus, I'm afraid they would turn on me at the expense of the kids."

I recall you saying you worked at a public school, so I thought you should be pretty 'safe' there. Hard for me to judge, being not familiar with the situation over there, but it's certainly shocking for me to read such things (I recall you mentioning such things before in this site).

"So, I pretend to be a Southern Baptist."

Hm. I wonder how many more of your colleagues are doing the same. It's saddening to hear such a thing.

I find the yoke which that society puts on you very oppressive - I coud not deal with it the way you do. It's either fight or flight for me. But you seem to manage to make it work for you in a way, good to hear that.

"You can always negotiate with the fashion police unless you look like this guy"

No, I'm not cool enough to dress like Superman and get away with it. My idea of a well-dressed guy looks more like this: http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2...
The only difference between him and I is that I don't wear glasses. As for the rest - that could be me in that picture.

"Fear the library police: I go after my overdue books with a vengeance."

That's not a topic for jokes!

...You're saying this to the guy who went to the library every other day? (because his mother wouldn't allow him to go there *every* day after school....). The fear of the librarian was drilled into me from an early age: I learned soon it was not smart to displease her. If her wrath was against you, you were doomed. If she showed you her pleasure by doing you a favour, such as allowing an under-12-year-old to check out a book from the adult-section (because the kids' section had nothing that even came close to whatever subject it was you were immersing yourself in that week....), then it felt like eternal bliss (well, eternal..., at least until dinner time)

If there ever was a goddess in my world... the librarian came close it....

From age 18 to 34 I lived in a different city (or country) for study and work. When I moved back to my old village recently and went to the library, I was shocked to see the very same ladies there (actually, before I walked in, I recognized the *voice* of one them talking...). They hadn't changed one bit. I met another one in a bookstore in a nearby town where she now works.

Would you know they all recognized me, after all those years? Scary.... but then again, goddesses are omniscient and omnipotent....

Peter.

Peter,

I am a school librarian and have to be very careful with "Jesus" around my coworkers. I love my biddy Baptist ladies but if I even question Jesus, I'm afraid they would turn on me at the expense of the kids. We can't even hold after-school meetings on Wednesdays because Wednesday is church night! They go to church on Sundays and on Wednesdays...LOL!

So, I pretend to be a Southern Baptist. On occasion, I have been known to wear glittery kitten sweaters and way-way-way long skirts just to keep the peace. I draw the line at the kitten sweaters and long skirts...Glittery Christmas sweaters make me rashy and depressed...

You can always negotiate with the fashion police unless you look like this guy. Fear the library police: I go after my overdue books with a vengeance.
