RE: [FamilyofGod] Christmas
My one church doesn’t celebrate Christmas or Easter; they use the Regulative Principle, which means they will only do what is specifically regulated in Scripture. My other (former home church which I still go to frequently in the evenings) feels that if it’s not prohibited by Scripture, then they will celebrate. This is also true for them with music.
My home church only sings Psalms a capella; my old church, being “traditional” sings hymns.
I wrestle a bit with this: for a while I would not do Christmas and so on over much—my family isn’t of the same denomination as me—but now, I kind of feel as though the pagans have enough nonsense and holidays. If I can take it and use it to the glory of Christ... As Paul says, I don’t judge things of conscience or holidays and such, but I love discussing these things because I learn from others and I get a lot of new understanding.
I’ve changed quite a bit about head covering, dress, and keeping of the lord’s day from discussions I’ve had with others.

Well, now let's take another look at Christmas...
History tells us that the Romans celebrated their main holiday of the year on the day we now celebrate Christmas. Their holiday was one of sex orgies and more! Those who founded the Christian church in Rome saw that many of their members were "going back to" celebrating this Roman holiday in spite of their accepting Christ. So, those in charge of the Christian message being presented in Roman decided that if they created a holiday to celebrate Christ's birth -- His birthday -- it would cause the new believer(s) to stay away from the Roman celebration. That's why Christmas isn't celebrated on the actual day/time of year as Christ's birth. (But, then we have to remember that Jesus is IN EVERY DAY.) Their plan worked.
The giving of gifts is meant to be a remembrance of the Wise Men bringing gifts to the infant Christ.
I know that the holiday, in this age, has been terribly commercialized and few celebrate it as it was meant to be, but the understanding of it can cause it to be a great event for the believers in Jesus.

I personally don't celebrate christmas because it started out as a pagan holiday. Constantine may have changed it into a "christian" holiday but it still has all the earmarks of paganism. Constantine himself was a sun worshipper and incorparated many of those teachings into the christian church. Even today we have to weed out those things that are tainted with paganism.

Yes, it does get confusing for me sometimes. To ignore evil is to seem to agree: someone once said that for evil to exist all that has to happen is for good men to do nothing. James talks about saying to the needy: be at peace and do well, but us not doing anything. James says this is wrong.
The hard part is figuring out what to do when. We always pray, but when do we act and what do we do. We want to be peaceable as possible.
One of the things I struggle with today is watching out for angry sarcasm. So much of the world/media today portrays rudeness to elders/parents/ teachers/ friends. So many people see it on TV and then think it’s funny. They don’t watch what they say to whom.
I felt an ouch at that Christmas U-Tube song. I was sitting there enjoying it and applauding.. .then, the Holy Spirit pinched me a bit. Yes, I get so angry at this holiday nonsense that I want to punch the next sales clerk that does it. I want, with the song writer, to say: go to hell with the rest of them. But is that a godly way to react to this? I think not.
So how do we not ignore these awful things, and yet not get caught up in reacting to these things the way our society reacts to everything. Cocky, obnoxious, (but oh, so witty), nasty, sarcasm.
Father God, fill us with your Holy Spirit in all this.

Far too often true Christians (the true Worshippers) keep silent during situations illustrated in this scenario. Sounds to me the enemy uses incidents like this to prove himself mightier than God our Father. So the devil thought he won? I don't think so. He is still a liar and the word declares "the father of lies". God has a way that's mighty sweet, (seems sad at the time), to move His people where they need to be. I don't know the woman but if I was a betting woman, I would say that her end at the school turned out to be her victorious beginning in the Lord. Hmm? The homosexual, I hope within my sanctified soul that he is delivered through the power of God. One thing about it, the devil gives people a strong spirit of dillusion only to KILL, steal and destroy them.
Brother Roger, I do see the point you are driving at but God has a way to avenge our enemy. We don't have to fuss or fight because the battle is not ours it belongs to the Lord. Jesus Christ our divine Saviour never resisted when He was led from judgement hall to judgement hall. He said not a word, Praise God. So now as children of God and joint-heirs with Christ, we too have to suffer. It is better to suffer for Christ than to get caught up in sin and suffer because of our fleshly desires. I don't know about you but I choose to suffer for and with Christ---I have great gain! Hallelujah!! !!
