Re: [FamilyofGod] Immortal soul?

Having been in your original discussion group, George, it amazes me to see your disbelieving posts in this group -- I sure don't remember you being of that mindset before. Then I wonder -- are you expressing these "ideas" to promote those of us who will to provide contradicting Scriptures for the others in the group to read?  That would be the favorable alternative.....

Hi Debi.  This story of Abrahams bosom is simply that.  It is a story or parable that Jesus used.  It was not an actual place or an actual happening.  If it was a literal story then they were actually in "abrahams bosom"  It's all symbolic.  We don't have eternal souls.  God breathed into Adam and he BECAME a living soul. We all had a beginning just as Jesus had a beginning at his birth.  When we sin we die.  The penalty for sin is DEATH.  The penalty for sin is not eternal life in a place of torment.  No  they just die forever.

Don't you remember the story in the Bible about the rich man and the poor man, George~?

The rich man died and his SOUL/Spirit went to that waiting place for eternal Hell. The poor man went to the waiting place for Heaven to come (Abrahams' bosom. where ever that is.) The rich man begged Abraham for permission to go back and speak to his brother -- to stop him from living as the dead rich man had and prevent him from ending up in the same place the dead rich man found himself, waiting for eternal Hell.  Abraham told him that the dead could not be allowed to speak to the living. (So, that also rules out all the "fortune tellers" out there, too, doesn't it~!) But what it indisputably teaches us is that we existed before this life and will consiously exist after it.

The bottom line is that our souls are eternal and existed before we came to live this life on earth, when God was the first to ask every soul whether they would live this earthly life believing in Him. Romans 4:17 "...God, in whom you have believed, who quickens the dead..." (causes eternal life in all of us) "...and who invites those who are not yet in being..." (not born to this earthly life yet) "...as though they were present." (As though they were already born into this earthly life.)

Do we have an immortal soul?  I don't believe we do.   First we must understand what a soul is.  When the bible speaks of souls it is simply talking about creatures.  It can be people and it can be animals as the souls that went into the ark.

The soul is the whole person.  It is not just a part of the person.  The soul can die as it says in Genesis.  "The soul that sins shall die."  The soul can die so it is not immortal.

What happens when you die.  The life goes back to God who gave it.  Or as it says, "The spirit goes back to God who gave it." When it talks of spirit it is talking about our life from God.  When we die we lose that life.  We arn't ourselves that life.

So when that life leaves our body we are dead.  The only thing that can change that is by life coming back into our bodies.  Then we become a living soul again just as Adam became a living soul when God breathed life into him.

So untill Jesus comes back on resurrection day we will remain dead in the grave.  Saying that our souls leave our bodies at death and go to heaven or hell is an oxymoron.  Our body is our soul.  God will raise it up again and make it new when Jesus returns.

When we die we stay dead untill then.  Everyone will take part in a resurrection.  Some to the resurrection to life and some to the resurrection to judgement. Untill then,  nothing.

But just as when we sleep at night there is no awareness of time. So it will seem that upon death we will be back to life right then.  It will be like we never died. We will seemingly be raised at the moment of death even though thousands of years may have passed.
