Mercy, George. The Bible says that God cannot kill ANYTHING OR ANYONE. He isn't a murderer~! So, we all choose to live believing in Him or not -- He gave free will to angels and mankind -- so that takes the "blame" for the eternal destinations of the eternal souls He created -- either to Heaven or not -- out of His hands.
St. Matthew 25:46 After explaining what will cause souls to go to Hell, verse 46 says, "And these shall go into everlasting torment..." (hell) "....and the righteous into eternal life." (Heaven)
St. John 11:25 "Jesus said to her..." (Martha) "...I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he dies..." (this earthly life) "...he shall live."
1Thess. 1:19 "For what is our hope, our joy, or crowns of your glorying? Is it not you in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes?" Our eternal souls, after the earthly death, will reside with Jesus -- we would have to be with him, to be coming back with him.
Again, I could go on and on reciting Bible verses to you. I suggest that everyone get a good Bible Concordance and start an intensive Bible study for the answers to your questions.

Yes, I was taught different too about many things. But if you do a little investigating you may find that many of the teachings arn't in the bible. Many doctrines of the church did not come from the bible but from Plato and other paganistic teachers. What is taught about going to heaven or a place called hell is unbiblical. In fact when someone dies in sin they don't go to this eternal place of torment. The penalty for sin is death. They will die permanently. What would be the purpose of a loving God to torment someone in this eternal place of torment. It would be torment for the saints too knowing that thier loved ones are being tormented throughout eternity. No, they are just destroyed forever. But those who say they have an immortal soul say they can't die and must suffer forever.. But then the bible would be lying when it said "The soul that sinneth shall die."But for those of us who believe we will get life and we will have it forever with Christ!

Do we have an immortal soul? I don't believe we do. First we must understand what a soul is. When the bible speaks of souls it is simply talking about creatures. It can be people and it can be animals as the souls that went into the ark.The soul is the whole person. It is not just a part of the person. The soul can die as it says in Genesis. "The soul that sins shall die." The soul can die so it is not immortal. What happens when you die. The life goes back to God who gave it. Or as it says, "The spirit goes back to God who gave it." When it talks of spirit it is talking about our life from God. When we die we lose that life. We arn't ourselves that life.So when that life leaves our body we are dead. The only thing that can change that is by life coming back into our bodies. Then we become a living soul again just as Adam became a living soul when God breathed life into him.So untill Jesus comes back on resurrection day we will remain dead in the grave. Saying that our souls leave our bodies at death and go to heaven or hell is an oxymoron. Our body is our soul. God will raise it up again and make it new when Jesus returns. When we die we stay dead untill then. Everyone will take part in a resurrection. Some to the resurrection to life and some to the resurrection to judgement. Untill then, nothing. But just as when we sleep at night there is no awareness of time.. So it will seem that upon death we will be back to life right then. It will be like we never died. We will seemingly be raised at the moment of death even though thousands of years may have passed.
Hear, O Israel! Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is one!
