This verse is one of my new favorites. I once posted on Twitter, “The Gospel is the key to this life and the next.. Not Oprah, Dr. Phil, or any other self-help solution.” I think verse 5 really echoes that here. Famous celebrities such as Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr. Drew, etc. are looked to instead of the Bible for the answers to life’s problems. The truth is, you don’t have a condition that needs therapy, you have a sinful heart. These people speak from the world’s viewpoint of “You’re a good person, just try a little harder!” Jesus would tell you to hit your knees in repentance and cry out for His grace (such as the justified tax collector in Luke 18). There aren’t enough self-help books in the world to fix your life. It is the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross. There is one Savior who is and will be all you need. We should be preaching this with great persistence! Filed under: Scripture Lessons ![]() |
| Posted: 25 Jul 2010 11:00 AM PDT I haven’t blogged much recently, as you have noticed. There have been some exciting things going on in my life lately that have taken much of my time. >>> Since resigning from Audubon Park, I started working again at Nordstrom seeing as church planting doesn’t pay! >>> I began writing at SBC Voices and have done most of my writing there. Feel free to check out my posts there! >>> Myself and a few other men have been working on the name and constitution for the church plant in Sachse, Texas. >>> On that note, we have a name! Woodbridge Bible Fellowship. Woodbridge is the well-known golf course and neighborhood that we are meeting at and makes finding us easier to the Wylie/Sachse/Murphy area. Bible is obvious. Fellowship represents our planned focus on community. >>> August 1, 2010 is the day we will present the WBF church constitution. Our church will be governed by elders, affiliated with the SBC and SBTC, theologically congruent with the 1689 London Confession, contemporary in worship and built through numerous evangelical community groups throughout the Metroplex. Needless to say, I am on an all-time high. Please pray for my church and my endeavors! Filed under: Daily Life, Miscellaneous, SBC ![]() |
