Our Lord God Is In Control
Jesus Christ fed about five thousand men besides women and children (Matthew 14:21). And after that He sent His disciples to go before Him to the other side. We know this familiar passage in the Scriptures about Jesus walking on water. By the mercies of the Lord once again we will meditate upon these Scriptures.
Bible says, "But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary". (Matthew 14:24). Our life is also like this boat that we wish it sails smoothly, but we are tossed by the waves of trials and temptations of wind that are contrary to what we desire to do.
Bible says, "Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." (Matthew 14:25-27).
Dear brethren, we see that even though the boat was tossed by the waves and wind was contrary, Jesus was walking on the sea. Whatever may be the situation or trials or temptations we are facing, God is in control and our Lord Jesus Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth. (And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matthew 28:18).
Even though the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, their hearts were troubled and they cried out in fear. This happened just hours after they saw Jesus Christ doing a great miracle by feeding more than five thousand. But we see here, Jesus Christ never rebuked them nor condemned them for their unbelief or fear, but encouraged and comforted them saying "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." (Matthew 14:25-27).
Whatever may be the situation you are facing, our Lord Jesus Christ says to you "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." Yes, the Lord who promised, I will never leave you nor forsake you is always with you to help and encourage you. These words of encouragement is not only for us, but also for the people around us who are facing trials or tribulations; what they need is words of encouragement and comfort from us saying, Jesus loves you and our Lord God is in control.
Bible says, "And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased". (Matthew 14:32). We see that Jesus was walking on the waters, but still the waves were tossing and wind was contrary; but when Jesus got into the boat, the wind and waves calmed. The situation we face may say there is no hope, no one may understand the trials we are going through or are you feeling I am alone.
Be of good cheer, our Lord Jesus Christ is above all the situation (Matthew 28:18); until God says nothing is over for you. Jesus Christ is the hope (Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6); He is your friend (You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. John 15:14); He is your strength and ever present to help you in troubles (God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalms 46:1).
Bible says, before walking on the water, before facing the tossing wave and contrary wind, Jesus was alone praying to the Father (And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. Matthew 14:23). Our Lord Jesus Christ is our example to face the waves of trials and winds of temptations with prayer and walk over the waters of situations we face and be an encouragement to others.
Bible says, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose". (Romans 8:28). "Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," says the LORD. (Zechariah 2:10). Yes, we need to sing and rejoice in our Lord for the Lord to come and dwell in the boat of our life.
You may say, how can I sing in this situation? Think about Paul and Silos, beaten and chained in prison; they sang, an earthquake came, everyone's chain was loosened, the heavens and earth rejoiced, because the keeper of the prison and his family were saved (Acts 16:23-34). How all these things could have happened? Bible says, "But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them". (Acts 16:25). Yes, as Paul and Silas prayed and sang, God dwelt in their midst and their chains were broken, souls were saved, heaven and earth rejoiced.
Whatever may be the situation we are facing, let us keep our focus on Jesus Christ, keep our faith in Him, pray and sing to the Lord. Our Lord God will dwell among us and all the trials of tossing wave and temptations of contrary wind will cease; and by the grace of our Lord and the power of His Holy Spirit we will sail towards our eternity.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." (Psalms 91:1,2)
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. (Psalms 91:3,4)
