The Highway of Holiness
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:3).
In Bible we read about the life of many children of God like Moses, David, Daniel, Elijah, Apostle Paul, etc. Every day as we read through the scriptures and see their lives, we also get desire to a lead life like them, walk with God and His ways as they also walked isn't it. These Godly desires are given by our Lord to profit us for the praise and glory of His name. The Lord says through His prophet, "Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go." (Isaiah 48:17).
Our Almighty God says, He is the one Who leads us in the way we should go. And Bible says, "A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray." (Isaiah 35:8). God leads us in the way that is called the Highway of Holiness. Our God is the Holy God and He has commanded us to be holy (but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 1 Peter 1:15). Our beloved Lord not only commands us to walk in the way of holiness; but leads us in the Highway of Holiness. By the grace of God, let us mediate upon the Scriptures and see how our Lord God leads us and expects us to walk in the Highway of Holiness.
Narrow Way: Our Lord Jesus Christ says, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:13,14). In the world, a highway is the widest road than the other roads, but in God's kingdom, the Highway of Holiness is a narrow way.
To walk a holy life and inherit eternity, Jesus is the only way. (Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6). God has given us the guidelines to walk in the narrow way through His word. At times we may think, to do as per the word of God and obey the commandments of God is difficult. But we can love God only by obeying His commandments and they are not at all a burden for us. (For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3).
God has given His standards for us to lead a holy life through Bible; and only by walking in this narrow way by obeying His commands, we lead a holy life. As our Lord leads by His Holy Spirit through the scriptures, let us walk in this narrow way "the Highway of Holiness" by reading, meditating and obeying His commandments. And His commandments give health to our life as we walk in them.
Straight Way: Bible says in the book of Isaiah, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God." (Isaiah 40:3). And the voice in the wilderness was John the Baptist crying out to make a way for the Lord by repentance. (Matthew 3:1-3).
We will be transformed to His glory in holiness when we will be with our Lord Jesus in heaven. On this earth we will have trials and temptations; but because our Lord Jesus has overcome the world, we have victory in Him through the cross and by His blood. (These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33).
Sometimes, we may fail due to our weaknesses, but should not hide it from our beloved Lord who loves us even in our weaknesses or sit back worrying; rather come immediately to the throne of grace with a heart of repentance. (For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15,16). A servant of God said when a frog is put in hot water, it leaps out and we should always be like that to run away or flee from sin.
Psalmist says, "I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him." (Psalms 32:5,6).
We might have confessed sins, the first time we accepted Jesus as our personal Savior. But every day, let us prepare the way of our Lord in our hearts by asking our Lord to search our hearts, repent, confess our sins and receive His grace and mercy in abundance. Then our Lord Jesus will chip off all the ups and downs in our life, make a straight way in our hearts and lead us in the Highway of Holiness that gives prosperity to our soul with joy and gladness.
Upright Way: The Highway of Holiness is an upright way. Bible says, "The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul." (Proverbs 16:17). When temptation came, Joseph ran away from evil and kept himself in the Highway of Holiness; and the Lord lifted him for the glory of His name. David had chances to lay his hand on King Saul; but refrained himself from doing evil trusting in the Lord, even though he was suffering and running for his life.
Psalmist writes, I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep Your word. (Psalms 119:101). As our Lord leads in the Highway of Holiness, let us depart from every form of evil so that we can obey the word of God and allow it to work in our lives to preserve our souls holy unto Him to have the fruit of life.
Beloved ones, in our life as our Lord leads, let us always choose and walk in the narrow way "the Highway of Holiness" by obeying the commandments of our Lord. Everyday let us submit ourselves to our Lord God, ask the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and mind, repent as He convicts of our sin and walk in the straightway "the Highway of Holiness". And let us depart from every form of evil to obey the word of God and preserve it in our hearts that gives health to our souls i.e. the upright way "the Highway of Holiness". Because Jesus lives, we also live, Amen. (John 14:19).
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. (Psalms 25:4,27:11)
Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalms 139:23,24)
Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. (Psalms 37:4,5)
