my brother was doing drugs and drinking and his sugar was ok.  then he changed to smoking pot and his suar went thru the roof, and he lost most of his eyesight.  he went from 260 pounds to 119 in a short time and almost died.  go figure huh?

Sounds like what Wanetta is going through.  She would be real careful and it would skyrocket.  Then she would lax off a little and it would go down.  Don't figure.  Our bodies are fickle aint they?

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 145pm (central time).  For those that don't know, I am diabetic.  I was diagnosed in 2005 when I was only 22 years old.  I deal with things fairly well.  Both of my parents are diabetics, so the genetic factors are serious.  Because of that, I was raised in a home that age a diabetic diet for the most part.  I never had sugary drinks as a kid.  I had fruit as snacks.  I ate whole wheat bread (not white bread) and on the list goes.  I wasn't used to have a dessert with every meal.  So, when I was diagnosed, my lifestyle didn't change dramatically -- I was used to all the dietary changes already.  Really the only thing that I changed was that I no longer drank regular soda (no biggie really).  So .. the story goes ...

In 2005, I was put on Avandamet (which was a cocktail drug -- meaning it was a combo of two other medications).  The met was for metformin.  The avanda was for Avandia.  It worked wonders for me.  However, I had to stop taking it because it was EXTREMELY expensive (it was a new drug and usually new ones are VERY expensive).  So .. I was put on just metformin.  It worked - had to tweak the dosages a few times, but hey -- on biggie.  Lately, my metformin hasn't been doing its job at all.  My blood sugar for the last week has barely gone below 300.  For those that don't know, that is EXTREMELY high.

Now, there are two types of medications for diabetics.  Either you are on insulin (which for the most part means injections) or you are on drugs that make your body more sensitive to insulin and the insulin you DO produce is able to work better in the body.  In other words, the pills are NOT fast acting.  It isn't like if you are running high you go pop another metformin to even things out.  It just doesn't work like that.  (It would be nice if it did).  So, really -- if mine goes high.  I have to wait it out.  There's little I can do to make it go lower.

I am careful about what I eat.  I have always been like that.  I have been especially since I was 17 because I started having some digestive problems that force me to be careful.  I have (over the past few months) lost 35 pounds.  For a diabetic that is overweight, the insulin you produce doesn't work as well because there is extra weight.  Literally, the insulin isn't enough for the weight of the person.  So...if you lose weight -- insulin is able to work better.  So, with the weight loss, you would THINK mine would be working better.  Wrong!  It has been worse.  Now, when you fast (meaning you haven't eaten anything for atleast around 6-8 hours (like when you first wake up) -- should be between 70-99.  Around 100 is pretty good for a diabetic.  About 2 hours after eating, between 90 and 145 is pretty good.  Other times in the day (regardless of when you ate) -- between 75 and 125 is pretty good.  Above 150 is not good.  Now -- keeping that in mind.  Let's play a little game -- games are always fun -- Right?!  I ate today at 5pm.  It is over 4 hours past my mind.  The spike that is normal after eating should be controlled by now and my blood sugar should be stable.  Right now -- (I just checked) -- my blood sugar is 296.  Yeah, something is WRONG!!!

Please pray for me.  I will let you know what the doctor says after the appointment tomorrow.  But right now -- I feel terrible.  I am constantly uncomfortable.  My legs are hurting because my nerves are overworked.  I feel completely out of it.  My vision is blurry.  I feel somewhat dazed and confused.  Yes, all of this is related to the diabetes.  (sigh)
