[FamilyofGod] Bless and Do Not Curse
Bless and Do Not Curse
Bible says, "A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit". (Proverbs 18:20,21). The words we speak can build us or bring us down. Most of the time we speak thinking that the words we speak has impact only on others; but it does have a great impact on us who speak.
The heavens and earth were made by the word of the Lord. (By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Psalms 33:6). Yes, the Lord spoke the world and all the living creatures into existence. And we who are created in the image of God, who have the anointing of God, are to speak words of life to others and our own self.
Sometimes, we see people cursing themselves when they do a mistake or when they fail. Some people speak ill words or curse their children or their family members or relations when they do mistake and talk bad about them in their back and then expect the Lord to bless them. We also see people cursing their superiors and their work place and wonder why there is no blessing in their work. We also see brethren complaining, finding fault, cursing, murmuring about fellow brethren in their Church and about other ministries and wonder why the Lord is not doing miracles and not seeing blessings in their Church.
Dear brethren, we cannot talk whatever we want and expect the Lord to do miracles in our lives and our surroundings. We are called to bless and be a blessing; not curse neither murmur nor complain. Our Lord has promised, "I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:3). By the grace of God, all those who believe in Jesus Christ by faith inherit this blessing that was given to Abraham. (Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. Romans 4:16).
If this word of blessing from our Lord "I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you" is inherited by us, the same is for all our fellow brethren. The first part is our blessing and the second part is for our protection. So we who inherit this blessing are to speak words of blessing to others. Bible says, "But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so". (James 3:8-10).
Bible not only tells us of what we speak about our fellow brethren or Christians, but about all men. All of us are created in the similitude of God and we are expected to speak words of life unto one another. And even if someone does against us or even curse us, our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us to bless them and pray for them. (But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:44,45).
We interact with people every day and we need to give reply or answer for the ones who are talking to us. Bible says, "A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!" (Proverbs 15:23). When people ask us something, first it is us who get the joy out of our reply or answer.
Our Lord Jesus Christ had gracious words in His mouth while living among men. ("So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" Luke 4:22). The words of our Lord Jesus Christ were full of grace and we are also called to speak words of grace to those who hear us. (Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29). And, "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one". (Colossians 4:6)
We all desire to speak words of grace, words of wisdom, words of blessing to ourselves and others, words of encouragement to others isn't it? Bible says, "But no man can tame the tongue". (James 3:8). Then, what can we do to speak words of grace and blessing. Our Lord Jesus Christ says, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks". (Luke 6:45)
Yes, out of the abundance of our heart, our mouth speaks. So let us fill our hearts with the words of life the good treasure God has given us, so that we will speak words of grace and blessing to ourselves and to those who hear us. Our Lord has promised us "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people"(Hebrews 8:10), and commanded us "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success". (Joshua 1:8).
By the grace of God, let us prepare ourselves and fill our hearts with the words of life by reading and meditating the word of God. As we do so, our Lord will write His words in our hearts and minds, and make the words of our mouth filled with grace and blessings to us, to our family, to our friends, to our colleagues, to our brethren and to everyone who hears them.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. (Psalms 19:14)
Remember
Only one life, will soon be past,
Only what is done, for Christ will last.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
