Water Pot and Good Wine

We know the miracle Jesus Christ did in the wedding in Cana of Galilee. They ran out of wine and Jesus Christ turned water filled in six water pots into wine (John 2:1-10). The water pot can be compared to us and the wine to the new life we get after accepting Jesus Christ as our personal savior.

Those six water pots were kept for purification, i.e. for washing of hands and legs (John 2:6). But when Jesus Christ used them, they were changed into pots used for serving wine. Likewise we were once living a worldly normal life, but when we accepted our Lord and savior Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and received the salvation, we are changed to pots for serving. What do we learn from this miracle Jesus Christ did for our lives?

First, to serve the Lord, whatever Jesus Christ says we have to do it. When they ran out of wine, Mary – mother of Jesus told the servants to do whatever He says. (His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it." John 2:5). To serve the Lord and to be used by our Lord for the work of His Kingdom, we have to do what all Jesus Christ says. He has given us His word for us to follow (John 14:23) and His Holy Spirit to guide us (John 14:26). So let us do whatever our Lord Jesus Christ says.

Second, the water pots were empty and Jesus Christ told the servants to fill the pot. (Jesus said to them, "Fill the water pots with water." And they filled them up to the brim. John 2:7). For the Lord to use us, we should go to Him empty, because it is the Lord who fills and equips us for His purpose according to His will. It's not our ideas but His ideas, it's not our plan but His plan. It's not our desires but His desires, it's not our will but His will to be done. Let us empty ourselves and go to our Lord Jesus Christ to be filled by Him.

Third, the pots were filled with water to the brim (John 2:7). We need to be filled by the pouring of the living water of Holy Spirit. (He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:38, 39). As Jesus Christ has promised, if we ask Him, He will fill us with His Holy Spirit. (John 14:13-16). Let us ask in the name of Jesus Christ; and as promised in Joel 2:28-29, the Lord shall pour out and fill us with His Holy Spirit.

Fourth, the water is turned into a good wine (John 2:9, 10). Filling by the pouring of Holy Spirit makes us to abide with Jesus Christ the living word of God and makes our life into a sweet good wine bearing fruits for the Lord. (I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5). Filled with the power of God, let us abide in Jesus Christ i.e. the Word of God and bear fruits for the Lord.

Fifth, Jesus Christ commanded to take the new wine for feast (And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it. John 2:8). The feast of our Lord on this Earth is the salvation of precious souls. Yes, for the salvation of souls we need to take the gospel of Christ through our fruitful lives and word of God with the power of Holy Spirit and the love of Christ. (Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. Matthew 28:19, 20). Let us share the joy of the Lord and bring people into the kingdom of heaven as our Lord has commanded us.

Sixth, it's the beginning of miracle and sign in our lives that Jesus lives in us. (This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. John 2:11). The greatest miracle on this earth is the salvation of a soul. Accepting Jesus Christ as our personal savior and Christ dwelling with us is the beginning of miracles in our lives. Let us allow Holy Spirit to work in our lives like the same way we accepted our Lord Jesus Christ and our Lord God shall perform miracles in our life everyday and every moment.

Seventh, it's for His glory alone. The Bible clearly says, Jesus Christ did and manifested His glory (John 2:11). Yes, glory, honor, power and praise belong to Jesus Christ. The Lord will never part His glory with everyone (Isaiah 48:11) and Holy Spirit who dwells in us will always glorify Jesus Christ (John 16:13,14). Let us glorify our Lord Jesus Christ in all our deeds, actions, obeying His commandments and serving Him with truth and in spirit.

Once we were normal pots fit for only worldly things, but when Jesus Christ came into our lives, He has transformed us by pouring and filling us with the living water of His Holy Spirit and has transformed our lives into a tasty good wine. Let us serve the Lord in holiness, love and with the power of His Holy Spirit sharing the good news of gospel through His word and our lives.

the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace." (Numbers 6:26)
