God chose the Jewish people to initially reveal Himself to mankind. God chooses Christians, not only to reestablish that fact, but to fulfill the Old Covenant through the New. Matthew + 22:14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen." (Jesus Christ) Matthew + 5:17 "Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them." (Jesus Christ)
Revelation + 3:20 "Look, I am standing at the door, knocking. If one of you hears me calling and opens the door, I will come in to share his meal, side-by-side with him. Those who prove victorious I will allow to share my throne, just as I was victorious myself and took my place with my father on his throne." (Jesus Christ)

Hebrews + 11:40 "These (faithful Jews) are all heroes of faith, but they did not receive what was promised, since God has made provision for us to have something better, and they were not to reach perfection except with us."
Hebrews + 8:13 "By speaking of a new covenant, he (God) implies that the first one is already old. Now anything old only gets more antiquated until in the end it disappears…"

The Jews were chosen to lay the foundation of Christianity. Christians were chosen to be the Church that foundation supports- the foundation of faith established through Abraham, the one God chose to initially demonstrate what true faith is.
Both the Jews and we Christians were and are a chosen people, but each in our own way, and according to God's will and purpose. Since the crucifixion, the Jews have been separated from God (anathema), for the New Covenant has replaced the old, making believers in Christ God's chosen nation.
1 Peter +2:9 "...you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."
While God will never disown the Jews, (in point of fact, by rejecting Jesus, they have disowned Him) He does however require that they now recognize Jesus as their Messiah, that they embrace the New Covenant of faith in Jesus and leave behind the Old which is based on works. Hebrews + 12:39 "…they did not receive what was promised, since God had made provision for us (Christians) to have something better, and they were not to receive perfection except with us."
Romans + 15:23 "God is perfectly able to graft them (the Jews) back again; after all, if you were cut from your natural wild olive to be grafted unnaturally onto a cultivated olive, it will be much easier for them (the Jews), the natural branches, to be grafted back onto the tree they came from." John + 15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser." (Jesus Christ)
