Verse 1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness to profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. Thought Godliness is the governing force, which after conversion, guides the process of transforming believers into mature believers. The very thought of the word godliness is almost as encompassing as trying to define God in all His attributes. Yet this word is applied to mankind. Perhaps the most succinct way to understand the term is to contrast it with the word worldliness. As worldliness involves exhibiting that which pertains to the world, so godliness involves reflection the character of God. The word godliness appears only fifteen times in the bible, and it appears only in the New Testament. In the Scriptures it was used only by the apostles Paul and Peter, and most of those references were in Paul's letters to Timothy. Godliness involves a person's desire to emulate and bring glory to God in everything he says or does, and it is the motivating factor that transforms that person into the glorious image of the Lord.
