This article was written a few days ago by our Correspondent in Pakistan. At Doulos, we have been hearing this kind of thing for a long while--but rarely see any reporting or publicity about the persecution of Christians and other minorities that we know goes on. I believe sharing such news is one of the best ways to combat this kind of stuff--the more people know a bout these things, the more light shines on the perpetrators--and countries tend to clean up their acts when the light is shining.

Rise in Kidnapping and Selling Kidneys of Poor Christian Workers in Pakistan.
There have been heinous crimes at high peak against poor Christians in Pakistan. In the last ten days two cases have been brought into the notice of Doulos International which shows the drastic situation of poor brick kiln workers of Christian community. They are trapped into vicious circle of debt/loan. This leads to never ending exploitation of the workers. The law enforcement agencies and local administration's traditional negligence further made the life of these workers miserable. The only hope of these poor workers is higher and supreme judiciary. The two stories are reported.
Meherban Masih (known as Ladoo Masih) 39 years old is a resident of village no 287 G.B Palasour, District, Toba Tek Singh. He got married with Shamila Bibi 27 years old on August 9, 1998. Meherban was working in his village at brick making factories in Toba Tek Singh. God blessed Meherban and his wife with one daughter Nyla who is seven years old. Both the husband and wife are illiterate and cannot read and write.
Meherban shared his story that, Three years back, Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar, Malik Muhammad Tufail, and Irshad, Sher khan the owners of brick making factory contacted Meherban and his elder brother Nazar Masih to work at their Brick Making factory in Ada (Bus Stand) Nooropur Chahila, Qila Didar Singh, Hafizabad Road 01 Kilometer Road, Gujranwala. The owner Rana Zulfiqar appealed again and again to work at his brick making factories and assured both the brothers that they will be paid according to law and their families will be taken care of.
Meherban and Nazar agreed after the number of requests made by the owner and went with their families to Qila Didar Singh, Gujranwala.
Meherban told in the beginning, things went well, but after two months, we were informed by the factory Munshi (Clerk) that they (Meherban & Nazar) owe money therefore, they have to pay it from their wages. My brother Nazar and I were surprised to hear that we have not got any money neither from the clerk nor the owner. When I enquired, he showed us a register which showed signs of thumbs. The clerk tried to prove that these are of my brother and mine thumbs and we have put these after the agreement with owner"
"My brother and I come to know that clerk and the owner has exploited us for being illiterate. We decided to protest against this to owner. When we spoke to owner against this injustice, he called his armed men and ordered them to teach us lesson. The armed men badly tortured my brother and me with steel rods and chained us for two weeks. My brother's wife Bilqees and my wife Shamila went to clerk and owner Rana Zulfiqar to know about us. They threatened our families that they will be killed if they speak to anyone about this.
Nazar Masih the elder brother Meherban told "We begged the owner to release us as our children and wives were without food and looking for us. The owner forced us to accept that we have to pay him Rs. 250000/- (US 2976 $s). Our family will not be allowed to speak to anybody without his permission. None of our family member will be allowed to travel to see any relatives on Christmas, weddings and or deaths"
Biqees Bibi wife of Nazar Masih told, the owner never paid full wages of the work. The owner was used to ask his armed men to beat our children and husbands.
Bilqees Bibi added she saw herself; Rana Zulfiqar the owner and Clerk Muhammad Habib abused sexually Shamila (wife of Meherban) on gun point. They raped her twice or thrice a week. Whenever she is resisted, they threatened her that the whole family will be killed.
One day, when she was raped by the owner, I could not stop myself and confronted the owner. He threatened me that if I will speak about it to anybody, he will rape my three young daughters too.
I could not sleep the whole night after the serious threats to my young daughters. I decided not to share what the owner does with Shamila but stressed Meherban and my husband to escape as our daughters are not saved here. We decided whenever, we will get chance we will run away from his slavery.
The time was passing, one day the owner came to us in anger to return him the Rs. 250000/- (US 2976 $s). We told him that we have been struggling hard to pay him. He become furious and demanded that he wants it now. We told him our condition that whatever, is earned he has been deducting most of the wages.
The owner said, there is very simple solution, Bilqees can sell her one kidney and this way, my money can be returned. I at once refused because I had not been keeping well and had six children to look after. But the owner did not listen and overpowered me. The armed men put me in a car. My eyes were tied with a black cloth and I was taken to a hospital. I was made unconscious for several hours. I saw my right side was stitched and my clothes were full of blood. I came to know that my right kidney has been removed and sold by the kiln owner, Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar. When I hear, this I started crying. The armed men came in the operation theater and called me names and asked me to stop otherwise, I will be killed"
I was brought home and my family was told that my kidney has been sold in Rs. 250000/- (US 2976 $S). Again, we were told not to share about it to anybody otherwise there will be dire consequences.
Our families got so much tired of exploitation and repression of the owner and clerk.
Meherban told, "two months back, our families were succeed to escape from the slavery of Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar and reached our native village Palasour in Toba Tek Singh. We had been living happily and working in another brick making factory in Toba Tek Singh.
A couple of weeks back, my wife and daughter went to give help to my brother Falksher's wife who was expecting a child in village No 363 J. B, Bahminiwala, Tehsil Gojra, District Toba Tek Singh. On February 21, 2011 at 1.30 pm, the armed men of Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar kidnapped Shamila (my wife) and Nyla 7 my daughter from the brick making factory of Baba Ashraf when they were waiting for the bus to come back to Palasour, Toba Tek Singh"
Since my wife and daughter have been kidnapped the clerk of Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar, Muhammad Habib is calling me from his cell phone which is, 0346-6050848 that my wife and daughter are in their custody and if I ( Meherban) want to get my wife and daughter released from their custody. I had to pay them Rs. 250000/- (US2876 $s). If, I will not be able to arrange that much money, then my wife and daughter will be sold. In case, I informed the law enforcement agencies, then my wife and daughter will be killed.
He told "I am not in a position to fight a case and get police's help as they too demand money for everything. My only hope is Chief Justice of Pakistan who can give me justice" I have sent him my application to take sue motto action to get my wife and daughter released from the custody of Rana Muhammad Zulfiqar and take legal action against him"
In the second story, Inayat Masih of District Kasur's twenty five family members were made slave of a brick making factories. They were working in a brick making factory in District Sahiwal. They owner made fake papers against them and put pressure on Inayat Masih that he had to pay him money. The owner forced the two sons of Inayat Masih to sell their kidneys. The boys refused but they were kidnapped and their kidneys were sold at Rupees 800000/- (US 9523 $s)
The owner is still demanding more money to be paid. On refusal, the family was badly tortured. During the torture, the daughter in law of Inayat Masih was injured who was pregnant. Her pregnancy was miscarriage. There has been no justice for them as well and they are walking here and there in search of justice.
