[FamilyofGod] What is our hope?
Are you going to Heaven when you die? Most Christians today believe that is our destination and our hope when we die.
But nowhere in the bible does it say that our hope is going to Heaven when we die. Our hope should be in our resurrection to life at the return of Jesus.
We will be raised to life to reign with Christ right here on the earth. If we are already in Heaven living with the angels why would we hope for a resurrection of our body. That simply don't make any sense.
As always Jesus is our perfect example of what will happen. The example is his own death and resurrection.
Jesus went through great tribulation (there goes the rapture doctrine), died, was put in the grave and was resurrected from the dead after three days in the grave.
Jesus didn't go to Heaven upon his death. He was completely dead for three days. We will also suffer great tribulation if we are following in Christ footsteps.
We will also die (unless Jesus returns first) and spend some time in the belly of the earth or the grave. And at the right time, when Jesus comes back, we will be raise back to life.
We will not become or be clothed with immortality until we are raised back to life at his return. We are mortal creatures that are subject to death until we are raised to life.
Then as it says we will forever be with the lord. Wherever he is or will be we will be too. It says we will reign with him on the earth.
Now what about those who die without Christ? They are not immortal either. When they die they don't go to this place of eternal torment where they will live forever like this.
No, when they die they go to the grave too. They will remain dead until they are resurrected too. They will be in the second resurrection on judgment day where everyone will be raised to receive what they deserve.
It's a matter of life or death. We will either receive life or death. If we are found worthy we will receive life. If we are not found worthy we will receive death.
"The penalty for sin is death". Jesus took that penalty for us when we went to the cross. Now we can be white as snow through Jesus. Without him we would all go to the lake of fire to be destroyed forever.
