Re: [Church_of_Christ] Re: "The restoration movement"
Greetings Scott here Ed wrote: >It sounds divisive to you because you often use words without understanding their >meanings. A large portion of the discussion on sects and denominiation is presuppositional. From the starting place of a sociological approach, many folk view the argument in a closed system in which a religious group is somewhere on the continuum of Sect….denomnation… State-church. One or the other, or somewhere inbetween, and there is no possibility of being anything else. The presuppostion eliminates the possibility of not being one of these. Therefore, for many on this list, if you do not embrace and advocate denominationalism, then you by default in a sect.
For many on this list, there simply is no possibility of being undenominational unless one is ecumenical to the point of having no non-compromisable convictions at all. A new Decalogue has been adopted by the neo-Christians of our day, the first word of which reads,"Thou shalt not disagree"; and a new set of Beatitudes too, which begins "Blessed are they that tolerate everything, for they shall not be made accountable for anything." - A.W.
