[Church_of_Christ] Re: Holy Spirit 3
Ray, ED replying
Ray: You are not an infidel and I do not think I'm dealing with one. What I am dealing with is a traditional cessationist who honestly believes he is open minded concerning the supernatural. . . . The simple fact is that you can NOT deny the promise of God concerning the supernatural as being for yourself and still remain open minded that it might happen. It's a self contradiction. Plus, my reference to Jesus' comments regards the principle of this very discussion.
ED: You do err, not knowing the scriptures! Thomas was not with the others when the resurrected Jesus appeared. They told him of it and he did not believe. Insofar as Jesus resurrection is concerned, Thomas was a cessationist! He denied the promise of God concerning the supernatural raising of Jesus. However, the next Sunday Jesus appeared again and gave Thomas exactly what he had asked for, and he believed. This is all George has asked. Here is book, chapter and verse (which you obdurantly refuse to provide).
Ray: Jesus' point is that if you deny any promise of God, any prophecy spoken, and yet ask for miraculous proof, it is useless. You DO DENY that the promise of the supernatural gifts is for YOU today in the 21st century. You do NOT believe that God gives those gifts to men today. Therefore, being an eyewitness to a miracle would not change your mind.
ED: False again! As is seen in the above reference a pure hearted disciple will believe even when he is convinced it is not so, when evidence is provided. Those to whom you refer (without b,c,v) were not pure hearted and that was the reason Jesus refused to provide the evidence!
