[Church_of_Christ] Re: Holy Spirit 3
Ray, ED in response
Ray: Luke 16:31 This verse is in a passage in which Jesus explains that if you don't believe Moses, then you won't believe in Jesus even if a miracle is done. The principle deals with accepting God's promises. If a person does not accept God's revealed plan and purposes in the word, then he will not believe based on a miracle. THEREFORE: if a person does not believe that the gifts of the Spirit are available today based on God's promises in scripture, then even if someone rises from the dead in front of your face, you will not believe it and you will still reject that God gives miraculous gifts to men.
ED: Thank you for giving Clay the verse, though I am sure he already knew where it was. It is just nice to see a bcv. However, to see it misused is not so good. In the context Jesus is dealing with the Pharisees (v 14) whose only interest was in "justifying themselves before men" and Jesus says "but God knows your hearts", v 15. These were not open minded people with pure hearts. But we do see Jesus doing the very opposite and supplying supernatural evidence to those with pure and open hearts: Thomas in Acts 20, though he refused to believe without evidence.
So you are in a bind! Either you claim to know what is impossible for you to know - the heart of George, myself and others, eager to believe and accept every promise and gift of God available - and to declare we are of impure hearts and closed minds
Or you produce what George has asked, one single example, even a minor one will do.
