This is historically inaccurate. Trinitarian doctrine was an essential of the faith from the beginning. The word TRINITY itself wasn't coined until long after, but the doctrine itself was a part of Christian thinking from the word go.

Modalism was regarded as a heresy from the time it was conceived. It's never been adopted by any mainstream group. Trinitarianism has always been the standard.
Revisionist historians like us think otherwise, but trinitarian doctrine is the standard of 2000 years.
