Subject: [FamilyofGod] Christmas
I just had to share with y'all. This has been the best Christmas my family has had in a long time.
I realize that some people do not really celebrate Christmas, but I want to wish you a merry Christmas regardless of that. I love this day. I am well aware of the history of the date, but there is nothing pagan about spending time with my family and having that wonderful memory of that first Christmas with my husband. There is nothing ungodly about seeing my mother smile as she got a gift she has wanted all her life and never gotten in. Nothing evil about going to a Christmas Eve service to hear again the Christmas story again and being, yet again, brought back to that child-like faith as we wait again with the whole world for the Savior to be born as a little, sweet, helpless baby. Nothing wrong with gathering around candlelight after communion as a church singing "Silent Night, Holy Night".
Christmas was wonderful. The food was fantastic and it was a family effort. I love being in the kitchen hearing all the laughs and conversation. Our gift pile was small this year, but that just didn't matter at all. It has been a wonderful several days and tomorrow will be the same.
Today, though, sat many people that weren't allowed to celebrate because they live in places where that type of thing isn't allowed. Today, many sat missing loved ones as it was the first Christmas without someone this year. Today, many sat without a big Christmas meal because there just wasnt enough food to go around. Some celebrated alone because they are the only believer in the family. Some sat oversees in the military fighting in a war far, far away from family.
Christmas isn't always a grand thing for some. I understand that. But - remember this - It isn't about why THIS date got picked. It isn't about the traditions. It isn't about gifts, food, or anything else. It is about the story loooong ago. It is about the Messiah that was born in the shadow of the cross so that we have a chance for an abundant life!
Merry Christmas, all!
